I have just had 4 new uj's fitted as the o/s was partially seized and made the car feel like the rear right wheel was buckled.
Anyway, i am doing a few jobs before BBWF and i am unsure about a particular problem i have. Sometimes when turning left or right whilst driving there is a metallic clunk noise coming from the steering area. The bushes have been replaced with poly's and the track rod ends seem good? Any ideas?

Check the bush at the point the column goes through the bodywork. Had a similar thing on the 400 . RT made up and fitted new and problem went away .

I've looked there already Neil and the steering uj looks new and has no play?? It sounds like the clunk is coming from the nearside front??

Not the UJ itself, there is a bush "in " the bodywork . If you grab the column above ( towards the steering wheel) the UJ and try to move it vertically you should be able to tell . This " Can" transmit to the pedal box which will give you the sensation you are getting .

No certainty , and I stand to be corrected , but will be interested to know what it is .
