Hi,

Looking for a 'new' car to take to uni this October, when I will be 19 with 1 years driving experience (I say 1 year of driving, it was actually more tinkering than actually driving).

It needs to be:
4/5 door
around 3k max
manual
quick enough(getting close to 200bhp would be nice)
preferably RWD

I do like an unusual car, so please post what ever suggestions.

Some of my thoughts:

Audi 100
E30, E36 3 series
E34, E39 5 series(-some E39's are so cheap)
Mondeo ST24

Audi 80 2.8? OK it's 4wd not RWD and 172 v 200bhp but should be fun, no? Certainly under £3k as well...

I was looking at various cars out of curiosity. A volvo v70 2.4 came up rather cheap to insure for me, and it does 0.60 in 8 seconds and can fit a house in the back.

But as top gear discovered, volvo is not cool wink

Have you looked at insurance.

Speaking from personal experience a 318is (i owned a coupe when i was 19) and they even do a saloon that would fit your needs and is very nice (if you can find one which isnt borked or rusted)

Its something a bit different.

confused
The vast majority of them will be way under 3k. He can have my 53 plate one for £1300 if he wants.

Worth him getting quotes on the large barges as well, they can be surprisingly good on insurance.

I just re-read the OP.

Off to uni?

Barge. Esp if it will be street parked. You'll be popular (supermarket runs). Easy to get home in. Ideal for escapes for weekend events. Bigger the better.

Oh, and double check your uni allows them if you have halls of residence.

I was getting all excited when I saw nobody had mentioned an ATR.

Thanks for ruining my big moment laugh

In all seriousness though, I'd take the Accord over most that have been mentioned. Insurance shouldn't be too bad, an ATR was half the price of a CTR when I had mine.
