ANOTHER! 996 Happy customer!
Discussion
Hi
I have now had my 996 C4 for circa 8 months and so far it has been faultless and I am very happy.
It was a very well sorted car when I purchased it having been checked over by Hartech 12 months before and in the year leading up to me purchasing it, had in the region of 9k spent on serving/parts, all done by Paragon Porsche.
The last service was a 24k mile service at 93,000 miles, the mileage is now on 105,000.
At 100k miles I changed the oil (Mobil 1) and filter. I also removed the front bumper to check the rads and both were like new (having recently been changed).
I understand that to maintain its FSH it could do with another stamp in the book.
I have just carried out a nut and bolt restoration on a 20 year old Ford so know one end of a spanner to the other.
If I find a suitable indy do you think it is worth booking it in for a service? There is nothing wrong with the car, I will be replacing the rear tyres and giving it a check over myself in the next few weeks.
In a nut shell would you:
A) Book it in for a service and check over; getting the stamp?
B) Carry out a service myself making a note in the service book and not worry about the stamp?
C) Book it in at an indy and explain that I have changed the oil and filters and I merely want them to carry out a health check? Possibly getting a stamp at the same time?
Cheers

Its a law of diminishing returns; A high mile and/or old 996 will have a falling value. It's unlikely that you will recoup all of your servicing cost via extra value.
One with a service history is definitely easier to sell than one without, but the difference will become smaller as the car gets older.
An Indy will want some income out of stamping your history so you may as well trust them to do a minor service/oil change to get the stamp and do all remaining work yourself.
Well, that's the way I look at it.

You could take it to a Porsche main dealer and specify that you want their "Annual Inspection" for which the full menu price used to be £128. They don't change anything, just look the car over - similar to an MOT but by someone who (should) know the model well. You may be able to get a specialist to do this too for about an hour's labour.

Generally an oil and filter change(if you supply the oil) is just above the cost of parts over the annual inspectionGassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
