I may need to sell the Chimaera to fund payment on our main car and I’m considering selling at a low price just to make sure she sells.

I hate the feeling that I’m doing the equivalent of taking the family pet to the woods and leaving it to fend for itself but needs must.

Would £5k be too low a price???????

Specification is as follows;

Engine:
4.5ltr V8

Colour:
Cherry Pearl

Interior:
Magnolia / Mulberry Trim. Leather. Wine red wool carpets with magnolia trim.

Leven stalks and handbrake.

Mileage: 41,800 (Speedo currently with Speedy cables. Still waiting for its return 4 months later) Temporary speedo stated mileage is 29,000.00 (I wish)

Full TVR S/History (Austec Racing West Sussex last serviced the car) All M.O.T. and documents available (Passed MOT Saturday 15th October, 2011 - No advisories)

4th owner from new (I have owned the car for 7 years)

Alarm/immobiliser
Power steering

The only downside with the car is the paintwork. It does have stone chips but then it is 14 years old.

£5k is far too desperate for a 450....

And most (non front end respray type) cars of that vintage will have front end chips...but if the bodywork is sound and so is the chassis, then you are seriously undervaluing your car....

But, as you say, needs must - and I am sure a dealer will help and rip your arm off.....

Nosh.

Of course everyone on a TVR forum is going to say you're selling it too cheap!! There's over 80 for sale in the classifieds on PH alone . . .

Quick reality check: 15 Chims completed recently on ebay - only ONE sold and that was for £4250.

£5k will shift it quickly which is what you wanted to do.

Way too cheap, as a guide I paid last june ( height of sports car selling season) for exactly the same as yours, even to colour £10,000 reduced from £11,000 with 29,000 miles sound chassis etc. I know the price drops a bit in the winter so maybe wait a month or two. Or has the price dropped a bit more on these cars and is yet to reach the bottom of their value before starting to increase in value?

Go too low and people will assume its a pup and not go near. There was a good 450 up here last year got no takers at £8k but would of sold 10 x over when he asked for offers around £7k. Remember also prices are always a bit cheaper in Scotland. I recon if you put up for £6995 it would sell pretty quick

Something not quite right there scratchchin

As mentioned, with 80= cars on PH alone you're gonna have to be very lucky or let it go sub 6K to move it quick (imho) ?

(sold my '96 400 last summer tidy car and asked a fair price, only one enquiry but he bought it)

Snow on the ground, petrol not far short of £1.50 a litre, not a good time to sell a fuel guzzling soft top!

sounds like a proper car...

simple equation

what would fernhurst ask minus £5k equals quite a bit more than £5000 !

I've had £5k offers from traders and cheeky Ebayers for my 1996 4.0 litre (complete with not-quite-100% paintwork) so I'd say aim a bit higher.

Alternitively I'll happily buy the car off you for £5k, and sell it straight on for £6.5k and still give someone a bargain wink

The OP wants to sell his car fast - he doesn't want a dealer stock turn of 6 months plus.

Opinion is great an all but yes, the reality is http://www.ebay.co.uk/csc/Cars-Motorcycles-Vehicle... shows completed Chim listings - red price means no sale, green price means sale (check the bidding on the red 93 with brand new chassis).

As I stated before of 15 cars only one sold - which you can now see. Fact. It's non arguable.

This is the Chim that sold for £4250 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIte...

It's an indicator to what's shifting and what isn't - ultimately only someone who's sold a Chim recently can give Whiplash meaningful feedback on price versus speed of sale.

Far as I can see the only Chims shifting at big numbers are via dealers with warranties but bearing in mind the price confidence some people have why not help whiplash out and buy his car for £7.5k and then sell it on for this guaranteed profit?

ETA - the ebay completed listings search list lasts 2 weeks only so constantly changing as stuff drops of the end.

it's not even that simple. My take on this is similar to my take on the property market at the mo. I think it's less about price and more a question of numbers of real, committed buyers who actually have the money to spend here and now. In the OP'd case he'll sell it at £5k all right, but to who ? To a speculator/trader who'll sit on it til it makes £9k or £10k, whenever that might be. Meanwhile if he offers it at £9k it might sell, if the right buyer is active now, but with so few RETAIL buyers around, who knows how long it would take.

I had the same "argument" with my estate agent. We've had our house on the market for 2 years, starting at £425K. Agent kept saying "drop the price drop the price". I kept saying "will make no difference". Eventually last May (peak season of course), to prove the point that it's not about price, it's about number of genuine buyers, we dropped the price to £325k (no intention of selling at that price though). The price drop did not generate a single extra enquiry let alone viewing. Price is back up now.

OP, tell your mates to tell their mates it's for sale. Put a for sale card in the window while it's out and about. Advertise it for £9k. If it's cheap cheap people won't trust it.

If I see a 450 for £5K, I will assume at the very least that the outriggers are shot and the exterior/interior are very ropey (they all look fine in photos on the internet), given that there's so much rubbish on the market. I would only come and view the car if I were local.
