Our HR manager is very fond of sending out Emails with instructions, finishing with the threat of disciplinary action if not followed/adhered to.

Some of the Emails could easily worry or upset employees of a more sensitive nature, and I'm sure lead folk to act inappropriately.

I was always of the thinking and opinion that each employee should be treated individually in the event of non conformance, rather than threaten the whole workforce.

Does any one know if it's legal to threaten people in this way?

Thanks in advance.

I doubt it - the same rules are there for everyone. Obviously each breach should be looked at individually but don't see a problem with the above unless they are exceptionally aggresive.

I don't think it's illegal but it's definitly the sign of a poor manager.

Is there a suggestion box at your place of work? A clear suggestion that leaving out the threats would improve morale and possibly staff retention might work.

Are they really threats or is the HR manager just being very clear about the consequences of not following company policy?

" There will be no bevying, valdalising or shirking!" and that was Jimmie Reid

Perhaps yon HR Manager wants to stamp his authority on things until everyone realises not to mess with him - he'll probably calm down then..
