Laptop machine

no lights on unit

In process of writing CD and when trying to press the open the cd writer....nothing?

once booted up, no drive D...no sign of life

Can someone confirm that this indicates hardware failure of the rewriter?

Power off the laptop - make sure it doesn't just go into hibernate/standby. Remove the battery for 1 min. Refit and reboot. If the drive still isn't there then suspect its dead.

I have seen drives disappear from the config and lock the door when writing with both Nero and Roxio.
