HOW MANY UK REGISTERED 997.2 GT3RS 3.8

I realise tha this may have been requested a number of times, but I don't seem to be able to obtain an accurate number. I am sure there are many experts on here who would know the answer. A split of the colours would also be interesting.

I too would like to know. The average was to be two per dealer, say 66. And re colours, mine is PTS code 999 ( viper green ) and a friend alledges to have seen another one in that colour ( can anyone confirm, reg no SAS 1 or something, possibly the SAS Carerra Cup Team ? ). I suppose we could ask PCGB but the PTS Colours wont show up as they are all listed as code 999 not one particular colour. The bonnet plate on mine shows colour as 999.

I have also been looking for a figure and agree it would also be interesting to see the colour split. Blue is imo by far the rarest, only seen one blue one for sale in the last two years.

I contacted my OPC regarding this very question, who in turn contacted Porsche to try and find out the answer..

Porsche were very reticent to say the least, even to an OPC. They were told that would/could not tell them, the only thing they would say that the numbers were very small indeed. They went on to say that if there was a very,very, good reason customer service *** may*** inform the enquirer the numbers. I havent persued it, I don't have a very, very good reason!!!!!

I would take it very small numbers to be sub 100, imho of course....

It seems to me from looking at the classified's there more MK2 RS's as there is standard MK2 gt3's!

106 New registrations in 2007, 6 in 2008, none in 2009 and 115 in 2010 so I guess the 2010 reg are the 997.2s?

I too have spent on and off some considerable time digging and ave come up with a similar number , ie no more than 115 RHD cars were made in the world, I heard many dealers did not get to sell more than one RS and some none. I heard that there was approx 600 RS gen2 cars made in the world. Either way evn Hugh there's the very rare 4.0 the 3.8 will also remain very rare. Remember it's the last true manual RS !

Thank you all for your input. I was reading the Monkey Harris article in Evo, and he mentions the rarity of the 4.0L but clearly the 3.8 is not that far behind, and makes the car a keeper. All we need now is some reasonable weather to be able to use the things!

I think black is the rarest colour, i have only seen one RHD in black, does anyone know if black was a standard colour?

Standard colours were grey, white or blue. Black would have been PTS.

There certainly were. One thing to consider is that some LHD cars will have been registered in the UK by people that couldn't get RHD ones (or who simply wanted otherwise).

Yup apparently ( I say that with a hint of cynicism ) the Black with gold 997.2 RS we have in NZ was the last RHD off the line , car was to order .
would look good of course with a Phoenix on the bonnet :-)

Does anyone know why Porsche has been so reticent to release the production numbers for the 997 GT3 and GT3Rs, all generations?...Why do people have to try to backsolve it from registrations?.
It is no more clear on my side of the pond....

Correct RDmG, this hiding of numbers is seen from the start of the new GT3 run, they wont confirm any orders or suggest an allocation. I wonder why, to push the market maybe, say build all the cars they can sell, less one ! Are they trying to see how close to -1 they can get, or got in the case of the Gen 2 RS.

If there are not many more than 600 of the 3.8 RS worldwide, does that not make the car pretty decent value especially compared to the 4.0 RS where it is explicitly stated there were only 600 made? Someone suggested to me on another thread that the 4.0 RS was listed at £230k which sounded very high as there are €190k cars listed in Germany but even at €190k, the 3.8 RS for sale at £90k ish starts looking pretty good?

I may be wrong, but I heard informally that there were more 3.8s than 3.6s worldwide. I can't really back this up but I heard it was about 2,000 each. Would love to find out.

Was just doing a bit more looking, seems the gt3rsregistry website has the same number as you, approx 2k each... Darn.. at a few hundred over the 4.0 my self justification to get one starts to look a bit better but at 2k.. perhaps not!
