Dropped my XK8 Convertible in at Chilterns of Bovingdon today for a few bits and pieces: fix headlight condensation, install a remote hood open/close module and fit a wind deflector.
They handed me the keys to an 'N' reg XJ8 Sovereign with 100k on the clock as a loan car.
What a fantastic car! So smooth, excellent ride, you can see the corners so it's really placeable on the road, large glasshouse as well - feels a much smaller car than it really is. It can really shift as well.
Had a big smile on my face all the way into work.
Can't wait to drive it back there this evening.
If only we neeeded a second car......

3-4k? I've seen some stunners for under 2k, such are the prices at the moment. There's one on auto trader for 1k and it looks the business, i'm very tempted to go back to an X300. They ere actually voted the best looking saloon car in the world at the time by a panel of italian designers, praise indeed!
I bought an X300 just after Christmas. I've got it on a classic policy, and I wish I'd opted for a lot more miles! It's a 3.2, and it's great for when me and the mrs go away for the weekend. I paid just over £1k. It's good, but not perfect.
If I was buying again, I'd probably look for a 4.0. With £3-4k, I'd be looking for the best XJR I could find, and spend some of that on getting it perfect. Then I'd keep it as long as I could.
I don't think X300s can stay this cheap for long.

This isn't helping you know. We really just don't need two cars.
Garage just 'phoned to ask if I could pick up the XK8 tomorrow instead of this evening as they are not sure if they will be finished on time. That's a real shame.....
So might stick some fuel in the XJ6 and have a bit of a waft around St Albans tonight......

As I said - you are really not helping.
Fiancee was impressed with the car last night. We agreed though we just don't need another car - the XK8 sometimes has two weeks between uses. Be a shame to have another lovely Jag not getting the use it deserves.
I will, just out of interest, have to take a quick look at the XJR when I drop the loan car back this afternoon.....

Sorry to report that there were no XJ6 or R on sale at Chilterns.
Chap in service confirmed that they have almost no trouble with that vintage of car compared to the newer ones.
Had a nice R plate XJ8 - £3995 that's not on their stock list on the website.
If at some point we do need two cars then the XJ6 is at the top of my list!
