I cant even GET a quote! I have 0 years NCB, (no accidents, no convictions, new driver basically) and am also under 30/35 (Im 28) and cant find a company that will even GIVe me a quote. I want to insure a V8S (this seems to come up on their system as a 290?)
Tesco declined me, sunninghill and mannings I will try monday, but the other 7 insurers tried just plain declined to give me a quote, either due to the age, or the 0 years no claims bonus.
I thought if I took several hours out, got 20 quotes, Id find one for £1k or so... but I cant even GET a quote. Help please chaps, im getting anxious I wont even be able to find an insurer.
Cheers pie - I'll give classicline a call on Monday, and the coop people declined me
Since I posted, Ive been declined point blank by another few companies... and im worrying I wont be able to get an S
(cursing self for not buying a run about I could afford years ago, and racking up some no claims)
I couldnt find any links to insurance companies on your site pies... there were none on the links page, and the other pages are just pics...

I have my '87 390SE insured with Classicline; when I bought it in 2000 they said it was a 'future classic' - classic proper generally starts at 15 years old. So if you find a pre-89 car, claim it's for pleasure use only (say a 3000 mile annual limit) you ought to get them to play ball.
Only problem might be that the V8S wasn't around that early IIRC...

Fear not when i wanted insurance last year i had no no claims and had no probs
P.S are you looking at the correct website
www.tvrsseries.com the list appears in two places under buying an "S" and Living with an "S"

UKBob, if you are going for a V8S then I would suggest getting it on a classic policy.
I would recommend either Lancaster insurance or Footman James.
Pretty sure they both give classic status at 10 years old.
I was with Lancaster for my TR6,and they said just £100 a year more for the V8S I looked at.But then when I bought the Griff they said another £335 a year.
I rang Footman James and they said no probs!!
I have my 92 4.0l griff on a 3000 mile policy with a guaranteed value of 13k for £384.
Also with a classic policy they dont use no claims, albeit they dont acrue any also.

That's really odd, ukbob, as I have a friend in a similar situation (27, never owned a car, hasn't driven in the UK for 7 years) and he was able to get quotes on www.confused.com for a T350. He's now looking at an Audi S3 instead, and had no trouble getting the quote down to approx £1k. Worth a try, if you haven't already...

Don't worry about no no-claims. Lorraine and me have maximum protected NCB on our Ka and both our motorbikes (both over 1100cc), yet none if it is transferable to the Griff!
Luckily, Pearts helped this old sod (45) and Lorraine out, and offered us a very competitive quote anyway. The TVRCC recommended insurer wouldn't quote us without 5000 miles of experience in a car with over 200bhp. So how do you build that up then?
Needless to say, we've now got over 5000 miles under our belts (in 10 months), and shan't be ringing them for a quote, ever.
Good luck in your search.

For some reason 'normal' insurers are TVR blind. The '290' refers to the 2.9 V6 engine that powers the S2 and S3 - so you'll need to tell them that you're after the 4.0 version. Which of course they will never have heard of because it's not a Fiesta...
The specialist insurers will at least know what you're talking about. They appreciate that as a second car most people don't have a spare NCB - but the trouble is that you don't even have an NCB on a 'normal' car. You can understand that they prefer some driving history before you kill yourself in a TVR! The first year is the killer apparently. As a first car with no history - (gulp) well, let us know how it goes. If it really is impossible even with a specialist, don't rule out a nice S3 for a year or two.

Thanks for the advice and links. Its tougher than I thought it would be. I really did imagine calling up dozens of insurers, and planned on stumbling upon a really cheap one if I put in the effort to look. Im getting declined every which way I turn, possibly accentuated by the fact that I need the car for business use in one or two cases.
I persevered, and eventually found a broker who searched 97 companies for a quote.
Only one quote was accepted(!) on the V8S for 2600 squid.
Another quote (that was not declined from the 97 companies) was referred (at £1900) because of a non standard modification... chim alloys. So, the £1900 will probably become £2000 when it gets approved after referral return on Monday.
Guys, whats all this about the classic policy. Ive spoken to a few people, and I thought that I could *not* get one, unless the V8S was my second car. I dont own a car, so thats the bottom line (cant have classic)... or have I got the wrong end of the stick?
If Im wrong, and I can have a classic policy, then whats the max milage I could get? Id need 10k at least. 3k just isnt an option.

I can't think that Chimp alloys really count as a 'non-standard mod' - they're pukka TVR parts and won't make the car go any quicker. As for value, they're probably worth less than the originals - ask for a discount!
Classic policies refer to the type of car, not the fact that it's a second car. They cover classic and unusual cars, and in TVR-land (where every model is generally regarded as a classic or future classic), can sometimes mean a car over 10 years old - which a V8S would be.
However they frequently come with limted mileages because they are generally designed for second cars that don't come out every day. 5,000 miles is the max my lot do. So if you want to do significant mileage *and* use it for business, you're kinda shooting yourself in the foot at this stage!
Similar situation to you last year. 28, 0 years NCB, Chim 4.5.
Went with Peart as they a) gave me a quote and b) it was cheaper than Elephant (only other person to quote.
What's event better is that this year Peart have come in at £500 better than last year, and no-one (and believe me I've tried) can come within £400 of that. Sorted!

Hi UkBob, I have my V8S on a classic car policy so it does qualify! I am sure that a classic policy can be anything upto 7.5K miles which might be worth trying. I am with Classicline they are definitely worth a try.
Also give Richard at 'Unicover' a ring his number is 01903 877177 tell him I referred you, if a quote is possible he will find it, hes a good friend of mine.
