Diabetic Retinopathy

I couldn't find anything on here about this and wondered if anybody else has had problems with their eyes?
I attended my annual diabetic eye check-up today and they found some retinopathy in my right eye that had appeared since my last visit.
They were able to get me in-front of a specialist straight away, which resulted in more eye drops and some further imaging and scans of my eyes. I look pretty spaced out after a double dose of those drops
15 minutes later and i was having my eye lasered - which i wasn't expecting at the start of this afternoon!
The whole process was very quick and painless, if not just a little uncomfortable when they pressed a lens up against my eye, and repeatedly fired the laser in.
It requires a fair bit of effort to stay calm and try to overcome your natural reaction to blink and jump back when you have a piece of plastic pushing into your eye, a bright light shining into it, and then several bursts of the laser.
Anyway, no way near as bad as a trip to the dentist

Cheers! I'm booked back in for a check-up in 3 months time to see what effect the lasering has had... so i guess i'll know more then!I've had diabetes for 23 years, so i'm told it's fairly inevitable that i'm going to have problems with my eyes. It's just a shame i'm only 24.
The thought of having any kind of severe eye problems or blindness now seems quite real and is genuinely now worrying! I work in IT, and if i can't type or see a screen, i'm a bit f

Yep, and no previous background - it surprised the hell out of me when they said if I had half an hour spare they could do it straight away!Did you have any background retinopathy previously?
It was my first appointment with this clinic as i just moved down into the area last year and have been waiting for an appointment for a few months.

That is very surprising! I guess your screening programme is run by an acute trust? There's no way that would have happened where I live, as the programme is made up of private provider and acute trust.It was my first appointment with this clinic as i just moved down into the area last year and have been waiting for an appointment for a few months.
Still very quick even if it is an acute trust, as your screen should have received a secondary grade... They must be very quick (or not very busy)!
