Hi peeps..I own a 1982 TVR 280i which has the Ford V6 2.8i cologne engine and i know that they are notoriously hard to get any real power from but im intending on having some head work and various other bits done to release some small horses but was wondering if anyone has ever used a company called Southern Engines Ltd..They are based in Charlton which is in south east london, They are local to me and i have read some good reviews about them but wondered if anyone on here has used them and has any views that they would like to share..Many thanks..Ziga

Hi Mate..The cossie lumps go in and so does the Ford 302 with slight modifications albeit a tight fit due to the chassis being so narrow but i did want to keep the original engine as im trying to keep the car original..Im not looking for serious power as its a road car and not tracked and besides all that torque would just cost me more in tyres....Im only looking at around a 20-30bhp increase..180-190bhp overall which isnt massive but is enough in a fibreglass shell..Cheers..Ziga

It isn't original if you modify the engine.

A 2.8 is never going to be worth a huge amount anyway.

Stick the Cosworth in it !

I think your right...fk it..Ive been eyeing up the possibilities of sticking a ford 302 small block in...I know they fit in the early cars as its already been done..Couldnt find that many cossies so it might have to be a big arse 5.0.....Cheers...Ziga

The cosworth conversion is quite common for the "S" too, some people in there may be able to give you a guide on roughly what to expect and how they went about it.

Would it not be feasible to keep the Cologne lump and apply the Turbo Technics kit (if you can find one) that should see more than enough power and it would also be very easy to revert to original if you wanted to at some point.

Just keep as it is, and when you have the money sell and buy a V8 wedge.
You can get good power from a 12v V6 DC has about 270 BHP from his, and would cost less than fitting a 24v

I had a 3.1 that had £7k thrown at it and it only made 240bhp with triple webers.

A 24v cosworth engine can be found for £500ish and should be fittable from £500ish but lets call it £1500 all in.

So where exactly can I go and get 270bhp for £1500 ?

umm not sure how you can fit and get working for that price even the £1500, I'm sure zig would jump at the chance of having a 24v fitted and working for that price.

I'm 90% sure DC paid less than 3k to get the BHP he was running, plus it was reliable, he just sold the car with the above stated BHP.
