"Paris to allow cyclists to run red lights in bid to cut accidents
Cyclists will be allowed to turn right or go straight ahead, even when a traffic light is on red."

I've only been to Paris once, in the early 90's. Being a pedestrian on the pavement was dangerous enough. Roll on 20 years and i'd hate to think how dangerous it is now with all the extra cars.

Have you lived the remainder of your life on a remote Scottish island? Paris as a pedestrian is no different to any other major Western city.
As for the OP, I'm not so convinced about being to go straight on at red lights (unless you're on the top of a T junction), but able to turn right, or left in the UK would make enormous sense.
Never mind cyclists - cars have been able to do it on most US junctions for years, and it makes enormous sense.
In the ideal world, it starts with cyclists, shows a zero increase in accidents, and therefore gets extended to all traffic. I admit this latter may be a little over-optimistic!
