More venting fury at the stupidity of it than anything else. But here goes....

We live in a nice neighbourhood, with quite a few police situated on our road (so there can sometimes be police cars knocking about) & it is quite safe, but fk me this winds me up!

I know she does it, & when it's on our drive it's bad enough but this week we're getting the front drive & garden done so we've got to park on the street.

This morning, car started, back indoors.

"I can see it from the front window though"

To which I obviously replied,

"well at least you'll see the fkers drive off on it then".

This is a girl who went right through university, so she's not daft like, I just can't get it through to her that some day someone's going to jump in the car leaving us to pay the car finance & try & fund a new car for her (when I say us you know what I mean!).

Please, any ideas short of domestic violence that can knock her out of this habit??

Just insist she doesn't do it surely? You are the man of the household - right?

Domestic viole.... Oh.

Get a mate to call one morning in a hoody and drive off in the car as she watches from the window. Play along for 10 minutes, pretending to call the police etc.

That'll learn her.

Get someone to drive it around the corner.
She does know she will not be covered on insurance, right?

This, she doesn't need to see him as no doubt she'll be getting ready, the terror when she realises that the car is gone will be great!

Even better would be to tip off the insurance company and make her phone them to be told that she's not covered!

I have thought of this but the irregularity of which she does this renders it too much effort.

Oh & yes I am the man of the household, or I will be once the cars gone & the insurance refuses to pay out I'm sure smile

I know exactly where you are coming from.

Not sure if its a female thing, but even the very brightest of my female friends take this similar view on many things in life. Sadly its not until they have been a victim that they will actually learn from the experience - or even start to acknowledge the risk was there in the first place.

If she does it again, sneak out and move it.

Replace the car with an old knacker.

That way, when somebody drives off in it, at least there won't be money outstanding, and you won't have trouble sorting out another car.

Better yet, replace it with an old knacker, and get one of your mates to come round and **nick** it.

Once you've proved your point, hopefully she'll be less likely to act like a moron, so you can head back to having a nice car again...

Perhaps.

edit: too late - someone already had the mate idea...

My missus does this, not so much of an issue, an old MPV full of kids crap, crumbs, mud etc is not that desirable.

You sure about that, as the evidence given here does not back that up hehe

When she leaves it running, go out and turn it off, lock it and come back in doors, when she moans about a cold car, had her a pair of gloves and a coat. If she does it it again hand her a suitcase or If that doesn't make the point, then yeah, get a mate to nick it.

I think that's the thing, I wouldn't even do it with my old van & it's only worth 1500 quid or so? It just makes my piss boil I guess, I'm considering the just take the car off her approach.

Remove keys, get taxi/bus for a few days see how she enjoys it.

No sexy time for a few days I think.....

I've tried that and it doesn't work. Words like 'I own you' or 'you were nothing until I rescued you' don't go down too well either.
