Both reasonably fit - Missus plays Hockey - I XC MTB and both keep ourselves relatively in shape. Neither of us are fatties hehe

Reckon 50Km a day would max out, her indoors and we want to do other stuff rather than just soak of the roads cycling from place to place. Bit of off road/beaten track would be cool.

SWMBO has mentioned the Mosel Valley. Good weather would be nice - don't mind driving our own kit there either.

Anybody done something similar or could recommend a tour operator even?

Apologies if this isn't in the general holidays section. It's full of mongs hehe

have a look in the back of cycling weekly as there are a few companies who do cycling holidays and they may be able to tailor something for you. if 50km is her limit then my advice would be to head somewhere like bordeaux, plenty of nice riding and the advantage of other stuff to do in the area. i would be wary of heading towards the mountains or anywhere with valley in the title to be honest, consecutive days in the hills isnt to everyones taste....

Bikeverbier was ace when I went to the Alps with them... May be a little extreme though?

You say that, the OH is mad keen to come to Whistler again with me next year.

She's a pretty good rider, but sort of Green / Blue trail centre level right now.

I'm going to have a great time ha ha.

I had a mate who was in Canada for a wedding, he left his wife in Toronoto for the day and headed out towards the hills with a hire bike. Found a nice trail centre, opted for the red/black route and scared himself silly... he had been to afan and cwmcarn a few times before but nothing prepared him for the 10ft drop offs...

Whist this isn't a 'sexy' ride as such a few years back the wife and I rode the Sustrans / Reivers route from Tynemouth to Edinburgh. The weather was very kind to us and we had a super time and did around 30 miles per day over 5 days. We found it a great way to discover your own country(side).
