Afternoon all,

Just a quick query about will kits. Having lost my father last year who didn't have a will written, my mum has since bought herself a 'will kit' - i.e. one she's written herself without the aid of a legal bod. As I understand it, these are all you need, just need a couple of witness signatures and that's it. But is it? Having just had a conversation with my mum, she now seems to think these will kits are only any use when it comes to leaving money but not property? Is that correct? Will she actually need a solicitor to write a will for the property as well?

To muddy the waters further, she currently lives in Portugal (resident in PT but UK citizen) but is planning to sell up there and move back to the UK. She just wants something to cover her whilst she is in PT - just in case the worst happened to her there.

Any info greatly received.

Many thanks.

Will kits are just as valid as anything. Indeed, a will can be as simple as a note saying "I leave all my earthjly possessions to X" -m as long as it is signed, dated and witnessed.

Hiowever, if a persons possessions are complicated, a simple will may leave all sorts of confusion and conflicts.
