I thought this looked fantastic, I like how the tyres squeal when the car lifts up after initial acceleration.

I appreciate electric vehicles from a technological and engineering perspective. But I'm afraid drag racing is about more than that to me, and it just misses the point without the noise. And I'll guarantee you that the spectators won't come flooding in through the gates to watch electric cars racing...

If there was ever a sport that suits electric vehicles it's drag racing.

We should be embracing this not saying count me out!

Nobody complains about the lack of noise from rocket cars / bikes do they?????????????

Clinging on to outdated massive old fashioned engines and technology is a sure fire way to kill the sport.

Off to electrocute myself now I've had that rant

Fair play getting the electric dragster to run that quickly, but for me you can't beat a bit of noise thumbup

It's impressive yes, but part of drag racing is the sensory overload/explosion. Raw noise and the explosive feel is just as important to the overall spectacle as going fast. How do you tune it anyway? Go faster by adding more batteries and turn up the flux capacitor tongue out

Plus electric cars are not the answer to future transport anyway.

Do we have a huge demand for an electronic class? No, not at the moment.

When there is demand then a class will appear, until then you are stuck with "outdated massive old fashioned engines and technology".

As a spectator I wouldn't pay to watch big boys scalextric. In fact, I don't think I'd be able to watch it for long full stop.

I think there is general admiration for the technological achievement of building a battery powered 7 second car but yeah I agree about the sound. Can you imagine going to an airshow with gliders rather than afterburning jets?

If oil becomes a sparse commodity what will become of drag racing?

I do admire the innovation and the novelty, but as a sport and skill contest - erm, no.
Working in the petrochemicals industry I'd say oil is highly unlikely to become a sparse commodity in our lifetimes.

Genuine question, how much oil or oil derivative is used in drag racing?

Well we run semi-synthetic oil in the engine, synthetic gearbox oil and the car runs on methanol....

Hardly any in the grand scheme of things.
