I bought a B&W Zeppelin Air at Christmas and while it's completely, totally awesome, I mainly get told to turn it off or right down by SWMBO since I'm scaring the cat and it hurts her ears. hehe What's the point in a big, loud speaker only to have it down at a whisper? Anyway...

I'm therefore after a good pair of headphones, but not those in-ear ones that are uncomfortable. I confess to knowing nothing about headphones, but I just want something that sounds good and doesn't have 'Beats by Dr. Dre' on it. Budget around £300-£500 for something good, I guess? B&W seem to do some called the P5 - any good? I like my Zeppelin and they're British, so that's a good start.

Will last for ever, I think mine are now 12 years old and used daily.

Sound as good as you will ever need.

I've really rate the Grado SR80i. Theres a thread Here

The Grado SR325is are right in your suggested budget, should be worth a listen.

As you already have a Zeppelin I'd go with the P5's. There are some nice headphones out there from Beyer, Shure and Grado ... but I think I'd still get the P5's!

I'd find a STAX dealer and have a listen. They are amazing but also pricey so I think the Basic energiser and Ear Speaker setup would be where you would be at.

AKG K271 here, closed back so I can listen nice and loud without annoying the boss if she's trying to sleep (you can't do that with the Grado), comfy over longer periods but you would look a bit of a knob using them on a train.

AKG k550. Just bought a pair after reading a glowing review in What Hi Fi magazine.

Very happy with them.

And don't forget to budget for a good headphone amp - unless the Zeppelin already has a decent headphone stage.

i love my P5's. great looking headphones, really comfy, and to me sound bl**dy brilliant.. tho i tend to use mine when out and about and holidays etc.. not sitting around the house where there probably are better options with big drivers.

slightly cheaper but how about a pair of these?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Technica-ATH-M50-Hea...

was looking for some Sennheiser HD 25's as they were highly regarded all rounders when i used to dj years ago, but the reviews i have read on the ones in the link seem to suggest they beat everything in and over there budget
