Not sure if this is the right place to be posting this but as it involes money i thought i would try.

I recently split from my other half and up until now due to money commitments have only ben paying what ever money available for our child. As of next month i will now be paying a ammount to my ex for child maintenence.
My ex rang me today and said that since i moved out she has worked up some debt and because of this she is going to consult debt management, as a result of this she has asked if i would pay the maintenece into her mothers account rather than hers so that my daughters money doesnt get bought into the equation when her money is worked out for paying debt. I understand what she is asking but i am very unsure as to weather to go with this for a couple of reasons.
She doesnt want our child to lose out so the money for her does not show on her accounts, but what i need to know is if i go ahead with doing this could it come back and bite me. I have been thinking that if it is all in writing and signed etc then there can be no comeback, but also thinking if im not shown to be paying her direct can if go against me down the line if she suddenly decides she wants to claim csa and they backdate payments.
Has anyone else been in this sitution or can anyone give me advice on this.
Im realy unsure what to do as going round in my head im thinking i need to pay her directly but then im thinking i dont want my daughter losing out becuase her money is being used to pay a debt.

Could very well come back to bite,no paper trail as proof,my advice having been through this is not to go down this road.

Where do people get this idea that the CSA can backdate payments? They can't.

If the CSA do get involved they can only seek to enforce CM from when they first contact you, not any earlier.

I think the OP should be concerned that he is party to a deliberate default to his ex's lenders - perhaps with prior knowledge of what is happening this might be seen to be fraudulent ie criminal.

Make your own mind up but I know what \i wouldn't be doing...

Thanks David.

I know exactly what you are saying and i know what i should be doing but the debt is not mine or my daughters problem and has happened since we split up. To put in perspective why i havent been paying is that we were renting a property and i moved out but carried on paying the rent and bills up until contract end as it was only three months but she hast had to pay anything aprt from shopping and essentials, but has also been stupid with her money thus resulting in debt. I know its wrong to hide the money she is recieving but i lso dont wwant my daughter to lose out on what money i give to the ex for her when it is not being used for her

You have been given an account number by your ex-partner (try and get it in writing - just the account number, no names).

Set your standing order up to be paid into that account with your own reference on it, that relates to your child, i.e. Peaches Moonbeam Maintenance.

Seems easy enough, and its not like you are deliberately setting out to defraud anyone, while covering your butt.

Has your wife deliberately got in to debt to impact on your own finances etc, I wonder? I think you have to play this by the book otherwise you're in danger of being exposed at a later date without any proof of what's been going on.
