Followed an XKR out of work today and as i was admiring its pretty bum out popped a radio antenna from the back right quarter that was nearly the height of the car itself.
The last time i seen an antenna like this was on my dads old cortina.
Surely when designing a car like this and the price tag it carrys they could of designed and fitted something a little more discreet.

Simple solution for any owners who don't like their antenna.........open the leather compartment between the two rear seats and pull out Fuse 4 when the antenna is down. This keeps the aerial down as no power runs to it. Radio signal suffers a little but the main national radio stations keep their signal fine
No more huge aerial popping up when the radio or cd is turned on

I have had a switch fitted inside my centre glovebox by DesignXKR of Andover. Simple job interupting the power supply.
I use to take the fuse out, but SWMBO always like the radio when in the car and I got fed up of messing with the fuse. Now its at the flick of a switch without getting out of the car.
I usually listen to cd's or the i-phone and apart from it looking old fashioned, it is very un-aerodynamic and got a hell of a bend over time ..

Can I expect >40 mpg without the drag effect of the antenna? I'm hoping it's responsible for making it such a thirsty beast

Not sure Beemer, as it was one of a couple of little extra jobs during a full service. I would reckon no more than an hours labour to cut the hole in the glove box, and wire it all up. Give them a shout at info@designxkr.co.uk or 01264 333523

If you want to keep the active exhaust valves open to make the car sound throatier then pull fuse 19 too
Some like it some don't but it sounds bloody amazing with it out
Would you happen to know if active exhaust valves are only on the post-2006 XKR model ?

Mine is a 2004 XKR
I'm actually quite enjoying the smoothness and quieter cabin environment, but would be interested to try it out if it's possible

I have to say, I dont see any issue with the radio aeriel.
But now youve got me thinking, a replacement would have to be inside the screen, or maybe a shark fin.
Problem is my amps and sub are triggered by the electric aeriel feed, so i'd need to change that or maybe break the aeriel motor.
