Wasn't sure how to title this. A short distance from where I live is a 3000M, it's been sat in the open since I first saw it which was February last year so it's spent at least two winters in the open. It looks like a basket case, paints mostly gone and there's open gaps of gel coat. Car is covered in mildew and things like bumpers are completely shot. Condition of the chassis is anyones guess but it's unlikely to be good. Tyres are all flat, just looks like an abandoned wreck. I desparately want to save this car but I spoke to the owner many months ago and they were adamant they were going to restore it in time for summer...last year.. I've looked at M prices (asking prices) over the last year and the cheapest I've seen is about 4K for a going example (fleabay).

My question really is how much is this car worth? Assume it will need a total nut and bolt rebuild and body refurb. If it was anything other than a classic TVR I'd say it would be worth almost nothing... I suspect the owner will want alot of money for it not understanding how much it wil cost to restore it to its former glory.......

All thoughts welcome...

it's value i guess is effectively.....nothing. Sounds so far gone.

what it's worth to you/an enthusiast is anyone's guess. As you say, the owner will no doubt value it as a "barn find" secret prototype.....

get him pissed, get him to agree to you removing the eyesore from his land in return for a drive in the finished article

Be worth more in parts, rear screen if it's got one is worth a good bit.
I would give £300 unseen without any glass, nackered chassis/body and interior.

Probably cost around 9K to restore doing it yourself

What year is the car? Earlier M Series cars seem to be more desirable, probably due to their lower numbers. I would think it's worth rescuing but then I'm biased - I bought mine in similar circumstances to the one you've got your eye on. The trick is to get it for as little as possible (obviously!) so that you have the safety net of breaking for spares if it turns out to be in much worse condition than you first thought. Doing the work yourself will save a lot of money.

If she pays, ok. Or get her to park it, another dent wont hurt.

When I started reading this topic I thought it was going to be another like the guy who 'found' an escort cosworth that had been parked up for ages, applied for the logbook then took the car.

Sounds like it's way beyond economic repair even for someone doing most of the work themselves. Depending on what can be salvaged and location (could cost a fair bit just to get it moved) I'd hazard about £500 tops?

Has she said she will now sell it?
Ask her what does she think its worth then when you've finished laughing show her the modest prices good useable cars are selling for?
Someone who "knows about cars" has probably told her about a wreck of an E Type selling for thousands and so she imagines every old sports car must be worth a fortune.

and I don't mean that in a patronising way, there are plenty of blokes out there who think the same be it wrecks of cars, bashed up old Dinky toys, chipped ornaments, whatever

offer to buy her something with 7 day anti-ageing polycermidamopeptamides.
Or something sparkly/glittery.
Or some donuts.

ETA - don't mean to be sexist, but have you SEEN the hair/skincare advertising girls are sold by ? How gullible ? Yet try and sneak out with the "man about a dog" excuse (or indeed even something credible) and they're suddenly wise. Go figure.
