...as they have not announced the 987 officially yet?

Can anyone confirm? Going into the OPC on Monday, and wanted to try and know what I'm talking about before I go in! Thanks.

I don't think they take orders anymore despite demand outstripping supplies

OPC's have been told to sell demonstrators.....

If you want a 986, buy a demo, nearly new. Plenty available, and all at the same price as a new one

I have been to a dealer in Liverpool today to enquire about ordering a new Boxster "S" and they quoted approx 12 months delivery and wanted 2k upfront deposit....

When I enquired what the new model looked like the salesman said he wouldn't know himself for a couple of months.........

I ordered a 987 "S" in June 2003 and haven't been given any sort of delivery date.
If anybody wants to know details such as wheelbase, track, bhp, torque, visuals of inside etc- look on the net. It was all there before I ordered.

ps we sold our 2.7 a couple of years ago and bought two Esprit which we intend to keep as they are fabulous cars. however, can anybody suggest how we make the Boxster (when we get it), accelerate much quicker than standard only now we've got used to Lotus power, losing a more than a second to 60 is going to seem a bit limp. It will be nice to have a ragtop again though.

Well you could have a european import Seal Grey Boxster for immediate delivery from Autobahn in Coventry and it would be a 986.

Euro imports are not everyone's cup of tea, but I have taken the plunge on a new Lapis Blue car and apart from some idiot running it into the valet bay, the experience has been fine. I have the 2 year worldwide warranty and the car is to full UK Spec.

It was either that or an ex management car from PGB, at a wicked price. The best bit was when an offical dealer who shall remain nameless tried to sell me a £36,999 car for £35,999 when it was on their stock list for £35,999 in the first place.

Here is what I know - I buy cars for a living.

There is the odd 986 still around in some showrooms that have not sold. This is due to the spec on the cars being horrendous! I beleive they will be pre registered soon though.

The 987 has a launch date of November but the cars will not come through until March 05. If you ordered one today, you will not see your car until May. Unless someone has dropped out of the deal.

Regarding all the facts on the cars, go to your local showroom - it is all there, bhp increases, more std equipment, bigger wheel option etc. Trust me.......you will buy one!

a myth I'm afraid, 986 v 987 maths as follows:

PSM now std 700
OBC now std 200
price hike -550
sports seats -250 (this used to be free with full lthr)
climate -300 (unbelievable pisstaking here)
higher cost of wheel upgrade -200 (Porsche delibarately make std wheels horrible)

= 987 total £400 more expensive than 986

not bad although most other manufacturers' price rises are more than covered by the extra kit on the new model.

Porsche certainly the only manufacturer I know that removes stuff on the new model, ie climate!

I went to the launch of the new Boxster last night in Guildford. Very impressed. Do people think that buyers will be paying a premium on the new model to jump the queue come next spring?

next spring? no I doubt it although it won't be much below list

have been offered cars for Dec delivery for £1500 over but reckon that will only last for a few months once those strange people who must have the latest thing have got theirs

went to AFN Chiswick for the launch on Thursday - very nice car if you get it in the right colour but the big styling changes are inside - much better space and materials. Exterior very similar apart from lights and front grille so I am having second thoughts on basalt which make the 987 changes much less visible
