Morning Chaps,

Off for a lovely weekend in York tomorrow with the girlfriend, anyone got any recommendations on what to do? We are staying in the Royal York Hotel for Friday and Saturday night, so any thoughts on things to do during the day and pubs/restaurants to eat in in the evening would be much appreciated smile

If you like real ale:

The Bluebell - tiny front room pub on Goodramgate (I think)
The Maltings - near the river/station.
I like Lendal Cellars as well (on Lendal)

Things to do:

National Railway Museum
Minster
Walk round the walls
Clifford's Tower
Wander round all the little roads - Stonegate, Whip-ma-whop-ma-gate,
Walk in Museum Gardens
Walk down the river
Jorvick Viking Centre

Make sure you have tea at Betty's at some stage.

Excellent thanks, will look into those. Any restaurants you would recommend for our evening meal?

Can't be much help with that really - was a student there from 93-96 and spent a weekend there 18 months ago so a little out of date... There's quite a nice Pizza Express opposite Museum Gardens and a Gourmet Burger Kitchen round the corner which is nice enough...

If you fancy a taxi journey out I’ve been to this restaurant a few times... service is impeccable and food was out of this world! Not too pricey either!

You have forgotten Blue Bicycle. It's a must if not to late to get a reservation.

It's an interesting building (former Victorian wehouse). The food is great, if a tad expensive.
