£20k to replace a 350Z?
Discussion
Hi all,
My brother in law is looking to move on from his much loved 350Z. He wants something similar that will get him reliably to the airport (pilot) on time! He was looking at Tuscan's but decided he needs something a little more usable everyday.
So far he has only really considered the Z4C but I was thinking a 911 (996) might be in budget. Any other possibilities?

Cayman is a good shout, can you get an S for £20k
Wee bit over budget, but Porsche dealer - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3412167.htmPlenty cheaper ones from independents and private sellers. I would have one over an older 996 personally.
I would have recommended an E46 M3 CS, but if he doesn't need the seats then Porsche would be best.

The 370Z really appeals to me, I think they look lovely. Mind you, I would have huge difficulty choosing one over a Z4M or a Cayman S. Not a bad decision to be making though!Cayman is a good shout, can you get an S for £20k
Would definatley be a considering a Cayman S - have driven a colleagues and it is a scalpel to the zeds sledgehammer - much more grown up and certainly more civilised, but still has the same sort of insistent feeling that it wants to be going quicker. Should be able to get a decent one for 20k with a little light haggling.
My other choice would be an XKR, but I imagine if you are talking about 911s, he is after something a bit less practical and a little more loony. May also struggle to get one in budget (from my very brief look at them)

I had a 350z for 3 yrs...During that time I had the chance to drive a cayman 2.9 for a couple of weeks.
OP you wont be disappointed with the cayman. Compared to the 350z having brute force and heavy controls, massive grip and a butch feel to it which I loved, the cayman was the opposite! It had nimble handling, light but sure footed, brilliant brakes and steering and a sensation completely opposite to the muscle car feel of the Z.
Both are excellent and lovely to own...it will be a good experience if you are finally moving from the Z

To tie this thread up, my BIL ended up getting a lovely 55 plate Cayman S in metallic grey. It seems to have all the toys except the PSE which I have told him he has to get!
He kindly let me have a drive and I am officially a Porsche convert - it is an incredible car. It is like my S/C MX5 on steroids - beautiful handling and instant throttle response. It was seriously addictive and I felt bad putting my foot down all the time!
He says a big thanks for the suggestion!

To throw something different into the sea of Porsche's and I faced a similar dilemma.
Maserati 4200 - Proven Maserati mechanics and far more durable than the 3200 or their reputation would have you believe.
EDIT: Just noticed the BIL has spoken
