Hi all - seats are out of my Chim and I intend to buy a colourant kit from FC.

I have read previously about some people using this kit but noting that the areosol propellant for the air brush was not up to the job, and that a proper modeller compressor would be the way to go (if they did it again).

So, did anyone buy one of these compressors for the task?

I am asking if they would allow me to borrow this bit of kit, in exchange for beer tokens....

Was going to PM the PH'er that had done this, but search is down ATM.

Thanks in advance
Nosh

PS - FC did offer me rental on their compressor, but wanted £75 for that - and when returned it, I would get £25 back. £50 just seems a little steep, thats all.......

Did my lotus seats with the propellant cans supplied by FC and it turned out not too bad 7 out of ten i'd say, used the same stuff for my chim seats but used my tyre compressor pump (cheapo 12v job) and a few jubilee clips to connect it to the FC sprayer and the difference was amazing...9.5 out of ten. May save you a few beer tokens.

That sounds like a really good idea - but how do you plug it into a ciggie lighter if you are doing it in a shed or indoors?

Or am I being a thicko?

Cheers

Cut the lighter socket plug thing off and replace with two crocodile clips.

Remove battery from car and take into shed / kitchen / lounge (delete as appropriate).

Put battery charger on battery between spraying sessions (good battery should do a lot of spraying before you flatten it too much)

Yep as above or for £2 buy a 12v ciggy lighter socket from halfrauds etc and connect that to your battery to save you cutting the plug off your compressor. A charged battery will be way more than adequate for a whole interior never mind a couple of seats. HTH.

Phil

I looked at the one above at Amazon - it had bad reviews, so opted to sped a little more for something with better reviews.

oops! didn't think to check out reviews, we'll see how it goes, can't see me using it a lot just a handy thing to have "just in case"

Keep us posted on how the colour change goes, I have a pair of seats I want to change from a beige/tan/biscuit sort of colour to dark grey or black.

Mike;)

You can get an attachment for airbrushes that uses the release of air from a spare wheel as a propellant.
