Apparently my company didn't I form Hmrc of my ex company car and they now want £1000 extra of me next year

Just got a letter telling me my tax code is dropping because of my old company car. Gave it back in September and took the allowance, and now hmrc tell me my company hadn't unformed them i had a company car for 18 months?

Is there anything I can do? Or just stuck with it?

Its not like you wouldn't have paid the tax if things were dealt with correctly is it!!

Think of it as having enjoyed an interest free loan from HMRC.

Have a real go at the employer though. They have a legal obligation to notify HMRC IN YEAR when an employee starts getting use of a company car (Form P46 Car).

Unfortunately, you still have to pay the tax due.

But who's responsibility is it to ensure the correct tax code is being used?
Not debating that. PAYE is a three legged system. Three entities have to do their jobs properly for the system to work -

the taxpayer
HMRC
the employer

If one leg fails, then the wrong tax will be paid.
