Hi All

My LS7 came with an oil to water oil cooler which I now have to work out how to connect. Has anybody else fitted one?

I found a piece on the Edelbrock site that helped but more info is always welcome.

Just because it came with does not mean you have to use it.

I have seen them installed on the near side engine bulkhead just after the ali water pipe turns the corner.

I would think they would perform a better job than air as it will bring the oil temp up faster after engine start and maintain oil temp with water temp. The positioning of the air version on the Ultima is less than perfect.

I would not fit one on my SBC because the cooling seems marginal or at least has been when driving in hot and dry places. It is a good way of getting oil up to operating temp more quickly though. However I know of others who have fitted them with no problems at all.

My Laminova is mounted at the rear bulkhead behind the passenger seat (left hand car)
in the return line from the radiator to the thermostat.
Made a new straight water neck to get a better fit.
Until now I only made some short test drives, no experiences how the cooler works under
heavy load yet.

Here's mine before engine installation, also on the return from the radaitor.

Great info and pics chaps.

Seems a shame not to use it as it is effectively free (which is nice). You could say I am opting for belt and braces as I am also going to run the side pod cooler but with blanking plates so I can either completely or partially shut off air flow over the rad. Saves the cost and additional complexity of a bypass valve.

My cooler is mounted just in front of the oil filter so I will need to rig pipes to run to and from it into the Ultima cooling system unless there is a spare port on the engine I can use.

The LS3 from the 2010 Camaro SS has an oil/water heat exchanger bolted to the left side of the oil pan. One of the water pipes is connected to an adaptor that goes in place of the block heater bung and the other connects to a 'T' in the top hose. I have a complete surplus system here complete with oil pan but I would have thought the pan is too deep for use with an ultima.

Mike

I have established how it is plumbed and it is as you say.

Shame I ordered and paid for the parts to be shipped from the States earlier in the week!!!!!

Why did you not use it on your LS3?

We wanted to but it was not compatible with the F body oil pan we had to use to miss a crossmember.
