I had a Stealth HD170... here is a test video of my Griff with the external mic in the boot:

Very good considering I paid £123 quid for it from Amazon. Unfortunately I did sent it back in the end as the external mic connector failed. I will either buy another one or I may consider the GoPro Hero 2 which now has the option for an external mic.

Fine for road use but not secure enough for track days.
The best mount for that angle I have seen even though it pains me to admit is davetherave1970's mount which is a piece of wood connecting the two seats via the headrests. Simple but effective.
The only complaints I had was the flimsey external mic connector (why not install a standard 3.5mm jack), the fact that when running the mic the back door is open, the lense is not protected and is not replaceable, lastly I found the remote control not 100% reliable and didn't feature a recording indicator on the remote. That said you cannot really beat the camera for the money when you consider it has 170 wide angle, rotating lense, external mic, preview screen and 1080p.
The later Drift HD camera does address a number of my concerns but then it was almost double the £123 I paid for my HD170.

I'm quite tempted by this:

I was also quite tempted by the mini DVR as you get external mic, viewing screen and a remote for a decent price. I am holding out for the Go Pro WiFi backback before making my decision as if that will allow the user to control and view multiple camreas on an iphone or ipad then I am sold.http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/minidvr-hd-bullet-cam...
Getting back to the mini DVR I am more tempted by last years model for £100 from the bay:

I know someone who has got one of those older DVR iii and the quality is very good. He has two of the camera heads, one front and one back with a switch to flick between them where the feed goes into the DVR.

Loads of mine up on YouTube, such as

DogCamSport DVR and bullet cam. Real small and works well. Only thing is the mic isn't too great, but in fairless I used to use a fairly decent 'proper' JVC video recorder and it's sound wasn't much better. It's an open car and I guess engone noise with what are in effect lots of small bangs per miniute are quite tricky for a digital device.
Also worth saying that the jack plug on my original bullet cam broke. Called up DogCam and got a returns number and sent it off expecting the worst, and got a replacement FOC virtually be return of post. One of the better customer service experiences I've had, and not something that would be possible by getting a camera/recorder overseas I guess.

Go Pro Hero 2, external stereo mike and skeleton housing, sorted.
Exactly what I will probably buy but I am waiting to see what the WiFi back pack will do as I cannot live without a view finder and the wifi backpack will supposedly stream the camera footage to a smartphone which I would use to align the camera. What external mic are you using and do you have any sample footage?

I found the best results were from situating the mic in the boot of the car. Gassing Station | General TVR Stuff & Gossip | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
