Best colour on new SLK55? Designo Alanite?
Discussion
Looking at placing order for a new SLK55. What are people's opinions of the better colours for this?
My first thoughts are for Diamond White. Or perhaps the standard dark grey (Tenorite?). But also quite like the idea of the special order Designo colours such as the Satin/Matt Alanite Grey. Anyone seen the special order Designo colours?

I'm really suprised by how many white cars are about, especialy mercs, i also saw merc's as being conservative which is why I've always had M BMW's but now that I am actually strongly considering a C63 AMG, 99% of all available cars are white, to my mind it looks really blingy and shouty .....not at all what i think merc's are and i think it will date badly
I tried to specify Diamond White/Black Wheels on my order for an SLK55 but was advised that this was not available, due to an interruption to the supply of the pigment from Japan, attributable to the tsunami. Didn't fancy any of the other colours (apart from the stunning Streetfighter Yellow but wouldn't pay the €20,000 + VAT surcharge)but my dealer managed to get me Fire Opal - not a standard colour on this model.

White will look dated in a few years IMO. Have you had a test drive in the new SLK55, if so what are your impressions?
I haven't driven the car yet as no dealers have their demos yet. You often hear people saying that white will age; infact people have been saying that for years and years. I think the colour is standing the test of time well, and no reason to look dated.
My dealer did however also say that DW wouldn't be available until May, but happy with a May delivery.

MB are offering a few tempting options including a £3K contribution if you are buying outright
Thats weird. They make money from finance, hence they'd rather everyone take finance if they had it their way. Tempting them into a cash deal doesn't make sense.
Haven't discussed money yet with my dealer, but even pre-launch the usual Internet brokers (buyacar/Broadspeed) are offering 5-10% discounts! Would have thought that there would have been little in the way of offers.

I agree. My dealer frowned when I said they were just offering a better trade-in offer on my 5yr old SLK55. Came away with getting a very good offer, and that was without trying and before negotiating on additional services such as fee servicing.
Crikey, makes me realise how bad I am at buying cars! I had never thought of negotiating too much, infact I usually just buy over the phone at the price they tell me. Didn't realise other things like servicing we're also up for grabs.

I was going to buy my new Mercedes outright, with negotiated discounts, until I discovered that MB were offering huge finance incentive options as well. It was suggested that if I finance just £4300 of the total cost over 3 years, MB would contribute £2800. The finance will cost c.£600 resulting in a nett saving to me of nearly £2200.Didn't realise other things like servicing we're also up for grabs.
So when I add back the discounts and trade in already negotiated with the dealer, I ended up with quite a substantial saving. I wouldn't normally bother with finance, but this just seemed too good to ignore. Always worth negotiating to see what you can get.

Wow. Ok, so what's the deal with these centralised offers. That £4k deposit contribution is basically the entire interest earned on the finance. Does the dealer have to front that contribution or does it get funded centrally so that the dealer will still give local discounts from their sales margin?I went to two London dealers today, one of which is an AMG specialist. And neither of them had had any customers placing SLK55 orders yet. I thought these sorts of cars had waiting lists!

It won't cost you anything like if you just clear the finance once you've taken delivery. kryten22uk said:

The deal is that the finance company pay the contribution, not the dealer. And they're funded by Mercedes, who use it as a way to give a discount on the car without being seen to give a discount on the car. (It's not a discount sir, it's a "deposit contribution").And the reason they are doing it is that car sales are very slow at the moment (hence your comment about two dealers saying they haven't sold one yet).
