Hello all,
I want to buy a new motor to replace my stheap Vectra.
The specifications are that I have £3k max to spend, no finance. It needs to be able to seat 2 adults, 3 kids, a possible baby, and a dog.

I really don't want a people carrier. I'd rather sell one of the kids than buy one of those things. So I guess that leaves either a 4wd or one of these: http://www.limos4sale.co.uk/limousines2/4518.html (very tempting!!)

So, I'll hand over to the assembled experts and see what you suggest.
Many thanks

Yeah for £3k I'd look at Volvo V70s or an 850 t5.

Peugeot 307 estate/SW with the extra two seats in the boot. Quite a lot of these around.

Or Peugeot 406 estate with the same. Not very many of these around but you can buy the seats and installation kit and get it fitted.

Isn't there another thread where a guy is struggling to sell his V70 for £2400?

I found it for you:

The Volvo ideas are very tempting. I never even considered an estate.

As for the MPV suggestion, I'd rather walk! But thanks any way smile

Heres one for sale albeit £500 cheaper than your £3k budget so a few pennies left over.

Depends how old your kids are.

If they are still in baby/infant seats then I don't think you will be able to put them in the boot. If that is the case then an MPV might be the only option.

This looks very promising. Full service history for a car with such low mileage. Should be reliable and fun: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3618458.htm

(scooby WRX Wagon) comfiest car I've had so far and wife agrees - keeping the lady happy is a bonus. Greyhound fit in the back as well.

Otherwise some quick searches found some really unpleasant crafts. Others to consider would be an 02 3 series estate, e46, around 70k on the clock for your budget although you would want to be clued up on DIY servicing otherwise it could soon cost you. If you want reliable family stuff, kia and Skoda are doing some good monthly payment deals on newish cars with warranty etc, probably £150 could get you into something and your saving would be a great deposit or pay for the car for 1.2 / 2 years payments if that helps with the finances.

Good luck
