This is the N/S/R wheel on my Chevrolet Lacetti Estate.

What is the bar that runs from the middle of the photo to the wheel?

I am getting a knocking sound over rough surfaces, and it sounds like it's coming from exactly where that bar ends - although I've tried pulling and pushing it and it's solid!

Suspension arm/torsion bar thingy? Probably a worn bush at one or both ends. Too hard to move by hand but with the weight of a car behind it, will knock loudly.

Should be a cheap (possibly driveway) fix if thats all it is.

Looks like a drop link but difficult to see without knowing what it's attached too behind the wheel. If it is it probabily won't knock or wiggle unless to lift the car.

Should be very cheap and easy fix though. If it is a link arm they're about £15.

I'd call that a trailing arm.

Replacement bushes are usually cheap but will need a hydraulic press to fit.

OP, it basically attaches to the body of the vehicle (Thats the bit closest to you in the picture) and 'trails' along attached to the rear lower arms/hub assembly.
