Mate had a pretty bad crash

I don't really know why i'm posting this up but yeh.
On tuesday my boss text me to let me know my workmate (and pretty good friend) was involved in an RTA.
Turns out he was driving his girlfriends puma to work (the CTR he bought two week previous was in for a new clutch). He was driving down a busy B road (he had driven it most days for the past 3 years he'd been driving), doing the national speed limit. He then hit a patch of black ice on a corner, span, hit the hedge. The car flipped and rolled several times into a field. Noone saw the accident. He was fully conscious throughout, and felt his face bleeding badly. He looked at his phone, but it was covered in blood so he couldn't use it. He ended up booting the car door open, running to the road and flagging down a car.
The air ambulance was called, and he was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.
Whilst the car was rolling his head hit the tarmac road.
Turns out, that he shredded his chin and lips badly. His nose ripped from one side of his face leaving a hole. His eyelid ripped off, and he took his eyebrow off, and put a deep flesh wound on his forehead.
The only other damaged to him is several stitches around his head from the glass, and a small scratch on his wrist. No broken bones!
In the past couple of days, he has received a lot of plastic surgery, and had a skin graft to his forehead, his eyelid was replaced, and his nose, chin and lips rebuilt.
I saw him today, and i cant believe how well the plastic surgery looks (he is obviously very cut up and swollen),but its absolutely amazing.
You can procrastinate, over what would have happened if he crashed in his 03 plate CTR, with more airbags, tighter seats and less space to get thrown about.
Despite being sad that he will be scared for life you can't help thinking he is one lucky guy to come out of it how he has. well quite frankly not in a body bag.

Well worthwhile post. It's sometimes easy to take for granted how "normal" a car feels despite how cold it actually is outside and even driving cautiously this week it still keeps going over and over in my head "what IF I hit a bit of ice halfway round this corner in my plastic shoe box of a car?"

Car went right, left, right and I didn't seem to be able to correct it or slow down. Then a little light bulb went on in my head as I remembered the car had ABS (never had a car with it before and wasn't quite sure how it worked) so planted the brake pedal and it miraculously stopped. God knows what would have happened if another car had been coming as I had no control at all.
Needed new pants.

Was involved in what sounds to be an almost identical accident, only difference being i rolled down the road instead of into a field and ended right side up in a ditch, all in an 03 CTR.
Came out of that with a small cut to the top of my head where i'd headered the roof going round. Had to kick the window out etc. but i'd like to think it was the design and build of the CTR that saved me from worse (as well as a lot of luck!)

As far as i'm aware, there won't be any long term health issues. His sight has been checked, and it is completely fine. they recon his chin, lips and nose will heal without major scaring; but the skin graft will scar. He said when he first got out of the car, he was spiting hard stuff which he thought was teeth out of his mouth; it was however glass.
When we were first trying to find out details, his girlfriend said his face looked like 'chopped liver'.
He seems pretty upbeat really for everything he has been through; more so that he is going home this evening. He got an induction kit through for the CTR, and is determined to try and fit it tomorrow "even if it takes all day".
T cut is a good idea haha; he was only covered for 3rd party on the puma, so needs as much t cut as he can get his hands on.
