Very very nice cars, never driven one but only heard good things about them.

The seats are very comfortable though ! Sound great but unfortunately they seem to be the car thieves pick of the bunch at the moment.

Fundamentally the same engine - 414 or so bhp, but some RS4's have less power due to carbon build-up associated with fsi engines.

Nice cars, heavy on fuel, brakes & tyres. Suspension is great but some failure on dampers, covered by Audi for 5 years from registration so most outside that warranty now.

Overall, a great car but be prepared for high cost of consumables.

I had a 2000 4.2 V8 Audi S6. Is that anywhere near the same engine?

Dad used to have an avant in the same blue. Brilliant car, good ride and no suspension issues with us although he did only have it about 3 years. Same engine as the R8 and better economy than the M3 with more torque across more of the revs, and you can take the lab with you. Loved it.

Yes &

Tough choice. In time the E61 Touring will be more appreciated than it is now. The RS4 is competent, and a great engine with lovely torque. The M5 Touring engine is even better but the SMG transmission lets it down. Nice manual box on the RS4.

Just sold mine after 5 years.

Fast, solid and special.Great engine.

They use plenty of fuel, plenty of oil and are quite expensive to maintain, but I would thoroughly recommend one.

The 2000 4.2V8 in the s6/s8 is not exatly the same engine, and in the RS4 pictured its 4.2 V8 Fsi, which again is different from the S4.

I often wondered about this.

Is there a way of knowing the car you're about to buy has the full whack as opposed to one that's suffering a little? Or would it just be a leap of faith purchase and then run it on a dyno to find out?

Then if you do have one of the ones with less power, is there anything you can do to get them sorted to full potential?

Does it make a difference if you only ran it on decent petrol? I suppose you could put one of those additives into your tank or an engine cleaner into your oil to clean the engine out?
