in the persuit of higher speeds i have done a fair bit of aero testing and also paid for a specailist to inspect my car and give me advice on what ares to improve , along also with the good work that Adrian and Phil's did in the wind tunnel i have done quite a few aero upgrades .
at the start of last year there was a group buy on wing pylons that were 40mm taller so it made sense to upgrade to these as it had been suggested to me that the rear wing was not high enough, facter into that my car felt a bit loose in high speed turns .

When they arrived i was dissapointed at the weight of the units at over 850 grams each (std ones are 466 and also the thickness as this was wider than the std units , so off to the machine shop where they we thinned and lightened as much as possible end result was 710grams .

fitted to the car the first thing i noticed was better rear visability !! something that was a big step forward , i also fitted a gurney flap and with my new carbon wing ends off i went to spa , i felt there was a improvement and further raised the wing by anoth 50mm again i felt there was improvements especialy on high speed tracks , i have since modified another Noble for one of the most experienced Noble track drivers (and fastest) and he has confirmed to me the back of the car was more planted !!!

so at the end of the year i decided to get a set made to my own spec that were 90mm taller and keep them as light as possible , a big thanks to Steve who has just delivered to me my first set ,very pleased as they look great and are only 760grams they are also a clean sheet design so no confusion ref copying anyone !! . an interesting upgrade and im looking forward to testing the upgrade this year . Simon, I'll have a set no question a definate improvement on fast bends like at Spa when you raised the rear spoiler with additions greater speed can be carried, they look great too. My youngest lad Jakey will have a set aswell for his spoiler on his race car bed smile

I'm certain at Silverstone would be even more noticeable with the new layout end of the new pit straight the bend there (Abbey) should be even more epic than normal & then through Woodcote bend plus the end of the old pit straight Copse, with extra grip through that lot not to mention the rest of the fast bends will be interesting laps without a doubt!

Certain fast bends at the Ring demand more grip the new pylons will help there too.

More rear grip, faster into & through bends meaning quicker laps , simple...

Thanks Selwyn great input as normal !!!!!
I also think better rear stability through En-Rouge and Blanchimont will help alot with the lap , going to be fun trying :-)))))

Am I the only one that thinks there not needed. It's proven wind tunnel there not needed. And iv never had a trouble with grip rear end and following Si with out that and camber mod was not a struggle to keep up with. And think it looks to high. Just mt opinion tho

Like the look of them... have to see the wing on the car to see if it looks too high smile

Personal choice mate , the great thing about a Noble is you can set it up as you like , perhaps you prefer a car with a looser back end , you run with front canards which I feel are of no benifit and just create drag something that was also confirmed in the wind tunnel , it's all about personal setup and there is variation in each car when it comes to handling , also a possibility that you are a better driver than me and I have to have a more planted car to go as fast as you . not sure your right about that... canards tidy the air over the front wheel arches and are pretty much proven on all race cars allowed to run them... the ones we run are also wind tunnel proven to be effective.

One thing for sure... we are all coming to the tracks in the summer with a huge amount of new development and modifications... gotta love nobles smile

I read the aero articles from the wind tunnel and looked at the figures, the canards do generate extra downforce and I felt it on track ever since...

Not convinced the wing needs to be that high though.

I think standard I been told the aero balance on a standard noble is 80% rear and 20% front. Keep adding down force to the rear and your be do a wheelie around the track. smile

Hi Graham , in the artical it covers basicly the aero balance , mainly a problem as it was 60/40 split towards the rear i can only assume this caused understeer in high speed corners and was not to the owners liking , various test were carried out to improve the balance from front to rear what is supprising is how much front mods effected the rear grip therefore moving the balance forward , something they were trying to achieve , fitting front dive planes increased front drag by 2.2 percent and decreased front downforce by 1.1 percent , what it did achieve was a reduction in rear downforce due to less air flowing over the wing tips therefore moving the aero balance forward , on track i guess this equates to a slighly looser rear end helping with high speed turn in .

on my own car i have already increased the front end grip by mechanical changes and some aero work therefore moving the aero balance forward so it stands to reason i will need to improve my rear grip to keep the car balanced if thats the way i prefer it , raising the wing or fitting a fastback mod will increase the high energy airflow over the wing creating more high speed downforce , again all a matter of balance , and setting the car up the way i like it . if the article suggests that the fitting of canards increases drag AND decreased downforce both front and rear then the article cant be entirely correct.

Also their goal is to clean the air up down the side of the car by reducing the disturbance of the front wheel so it would increase the air on the rear wind end plates rather than reduce?... there is conflicting info going on somewhere!

Raising the rear wing 50mm over stock puts the wing fully in the air flow over the car according to Mira... raising it another higher shouldn't make a blind bit of difference to aero?
of cause looks and rear visability play a large part in all mods... Best part of raising my rear wing was better rear vision, yes it was a by product, but a welcome one smile

have you considered fitting a front anti roll bar from and M400?

Hi Andy , I can only quote the article and the info available from that article , there was no testing of the Wing effieciency and to what would be the best height to set the wing !!

I stopped at 90mm over std because I felt that was right , and it looked correct on the car .

Again it's all about balance and what you prefer , me I like a pointy car but with a stable back end , but you might like something different !! Tux

Tux you need to read the article again, overall downforce was decreased but it increased the front by 12.95%.

Also the aero balance was not 40/60, that's the weight distribution and what they wanted aero to be. It is 30/70 standard and the cannards/gurney/splitter make it 38/62.

So considering that we have already raised the spoiler an inch or so it will increase the rear and shift the balance back more, these new pylons will increase that further and the balance will be shifted rearward even more. Defeating the purpose of doing the front end mods...

That's how I understand it anyway.

Gave up looking for more aero on the Noble, Noble on road and Juno on track 560 Kgs downforce at 140MPH. A typically wet Spa

Yes do have a Juno and just bought a 3R after having a new one in 2003, early 3r car no 007 I think. Love the Noble for the road but it's a bit of a lard arse on track,Juno is only 560kgs. Runs a Honda at 250Bhp with hewlabd box and clutches paddle shift both up and down the gears!
