Once a year? Give the £100 to a pro detailer.

Have to say I'm a bit biased, we mop 5 large sprinter vans with one of these bad boys every yr, very very good for the money.

You want a Dual orbit.

Save up a bit and get the Meguiars kit

Kestral Das-6 Pro gets my vote for someone using a machine as a hobby / occasional user.

Another vote for the Kestrel Das 6 pro here, I have one and it's perfect for the hobbyist, more powerful than the original Meguiars machine and way safer than a rotary,

I have the Kestrel Das Pro 6 that someone has already suggested and its very good. However the quality of the results are directly effected by how much effort you put into job.

This is very true, its pretty much down to the prep work as with all things in life

wash, prep, etc ... plus an eye for detail and patience

strength has nothing to do with it.

Prep is key as is patience, especially when working the polish. I spent an entire evening (about 4 hours) last year on the boot and rear wings of my car. The results are not perfect but they are good enough for me.

It very time consuming but I quite enjoyed locking myself in my garage with some music and a few Peroni's. I did the remainder of the car over a few weeks.
