Of course I do.

If she didn't I might have to get a job!

At the very least make enough so that she doesn't need to ask you for money for her own activities.

Friends of mine have an arrangement, he earns very good money and so she doesn't work. Her part is to do all the household chores, all the cooking, washing and cleaning. Both love it as he only has pressure at work and can relax at home, she still manages lunch with the ladies and loose women :-)

You dont have to have a job to pull your weight!

I'd love my wife to be a housewife, like my mum was.

I, and many many others I'm sure, can't afford this to be the case.

I've just asked my wife, she actually prefers to work and have her own money etc.

However i'm upset that my girl friend doesn't seem to want to work. A few guys at work have said their wives never work ...
I think a return to old-fashioned values wouldn't go amiss. Women worked until they got married.

My mrs doesn't work - she stopped 15 years ago. I wished she did have a job that took her away from the house and gave her other interests.....

my future wife will be the major bread winner i think, and i will be the one providing a 'supplmentary' income for my hobbies.

It's about what's fair and reasonable. Unfortunately, we often come from differing starting points so it can be tricky. The best way is to talk about it. If you can't, then maybe there are other tensions at play. Good luck!

I work part time and have three children. My husband often works away. I also run the home - cleaning, laundry, pay bills etc. I don't have any help. The more you do the more you fit in. I could also list all the extra stuff I do and commitments I have. The downside is burning the candle at both ends.

You sound like my wife, our children are almost grown up now, but it must be a tough existance, mine had 3 children under 5 at one stage, with me working away a lot.

No, I don't expect nor want her to.

Slightly different to most, in that I get about 20 days off each month. I prefer her to be able to be home when I am, so we can enjoy all this time off together. It's probably the best aspect of my job. Plus, we live in Hong Kong, which is such a fantastic spot to take impromptu breaks around Asia, which would not be possible if she had large employment commitments.

I agree that we are financially able to make it work, though we both agree that we would rather adjust our lifestyle to maintain the current set up, than send her off to work, should the need arise.

When you're married, I find the whole 'hers & mine' idea bloody weird. We're in it together. It's not like I'd see her go short while I was out having a ball. If that was so, then we wouldn't have got married in the first place. 'sharing your life' and all that...

If you're "in it together" and you are not married or have kids and don't have a house that's paid for, surely, even if one of you is on a good wage it would make sense for both to work, at least until the house is paid and you have contributed to the future.

2 incomes are always better than one, regardless of the amount one of you earn.
