Until the government change their attitude, it will just go on. The question is how to get the government to change their attitude so law suits succeed. Otherwise, it is about changing the manufacturers' attitude so they don't copy Western designs. This can only be a consumer thing ie Westerners not buying the products if they appear over here. However, if China's consumers buy them en masse, then the manufacturers will produce even more.

Exactly, good luck Ford but the Chinese copy of the X5 was rejected saying it looked nothing like the BMW when it was nigh on identical.Seeing as they make everything, we're not really in a position to make a stand against them by not buying Chinese stuff either.
It's up to the likes of BMW to instil a desire for quality, real products eg they could have an advert with some film star rocking up at a bar in an X5, all the fans surrounding the star eager to get a glimpse of Mr Cool. Then some pleb rocks up in a PMW K5 and everyone points and laughs.
I don't think you can do anything about it. It's the way things are out there. Unless western companies refuse to supply China, zero chance, China will make fakes, as well as making the real thing on behalf of western companies, their own brand cheaper versions, and buy real western goods in considerable quantities too.
There is nothing that can make them change. I remember Microsoft moaning that China had x millions of copies of Windows many years ago, and only about a dozen legally registered versions in the whole country. They don't seem bothered, and there doesn't appear to be any stigma to fakes out there. It's all about image.
Perhaps they have got it right, and we really are too snobby in our attitude?

Forget to put the turbo on it? And don't use fancy injectors. We got an old tier 2 4.4 turbo diesel in the lab. 140kW I think it's rated for (185 bhp). Pretty low specific output at 42hp/liter which isnt much more than this engine at 38hp/l.
Still at least the one we have can deliver some stonking twist (480Nm at 1200 I think.). Red line is 2200 rpm though and it has an old Bosch rotary mechanical diesel pump.
