Just purchased my first 911
Discussion
Morning all!
Well, after many years of saving and procastination, (in equal measure) I have finally done it and bought my first 911!
Having spent ages on these forums looking for a car (I couldn't decide between an Aston Martin V8 Vantage or to scratch the 911 itch) I finally decided on a 911.
Once I decided on a 911 I bought the magazines, read the reviews and looked on the Porsche forum here......and got very scared! There was so much talk on IMS and RMS failures, cylinder bores being scored and OPC warranties not being honoured that I was close to being put off 911's forever.....then I researched the issues being talked about and what I could do to limit my risk of early engine death.
996 - Issues include IMS and RMS though same problems can also affect the 997 model
997 - Issues include cylinder bores being scored and d-chunk failures
Stories about low mileage failures were just as common as high mileage failures and these engine issues are probably relatively low risk but then again so is a house fire and you would really want to be insured or covered for that! So the question moved to 'there is nothing I can really do and I want a 911, so if the worst comes to the worst, which dealer would look after me?' and this led me to RSJ.
I don't want to get into a comparison between all the independent dealers and warranties out there but RSJ were the ones that gave ME the most confidence that the cars they have for sale were of a good quality and prepared to a very high standard and their in-house warranties were quite comprehensive. I also got the impression after speaking with him that Joel is very (and rightly) proud of his reputation as a quality independent Porsche dealer and he wouldnt risk that reputation by cutting corners so I decided to buy from him.
The car I have bought is a 2005 997 C2S model in Silver with black leather (yes I know, very vanilla) but it's MINE and I love it!
Here is a pic from collection day (yesterday)

I dont know if it's the fact that I have finally bought my first 911 or the fact I have walked up and down the stairs several times at RSJ that is making me dizzy
