Sound deadening on doors-hot air gun remove ok?

I have removed most of the tar like sound deadening stuck to the inside of the shell using a chisel and hammer in this cold weather.

Can't do this to inside of rear doors as it will damage the doors. Has anyone used a hot air gun to remove from inside of door as i'm concerned it will melt the paint of the other side of the door?

Just go easy & when using heat gun on stipping many track cars interiors, I find best is to get the deadning a tad warm but not hot, as then its just gloopy horrible sticky tar, get it just right warm temp & it gently peels away leaving no gloop.
