Hi guys,

I'm aware that the T9 box isn't the greatest thing in the world but have been told that changing the gear linkage and bushes can make a difference. Has anyone had any experience of this and know the costs for parts ?

Thanks,

AJ

theres two types mate, the early cars use the rover LT77 box & the later cars are a T5 box. on the rover box reverse is over to the left & forward,T5 is towards you & back.

Ahhh, ok, well it's the LT77 box then. Don't know where i got T9 from. There anything you can do to improve it do you know ? Please excuse the ignorance. I'm on a massive learning curve at the moment.

What exactly is the problem. To make it feel better i would first change the oil to castrol smx or its newer equivalent. See how it feels then.

If the syncro`s are worn then i`m affraid its box out time for a rebuild. Worth an oil change first though.

Don't know about the LT77 but on the remote linkage on a T5, you can buy the nylon bushes from Clever Trevor to improve any slop.

Ok, will do that then. It's just like pulling the gear stick through syrup. From what i've heard that's just what the box is like but i was told that changing the linkage and bushes made a bit of a difference. I'll change the oil over the weekend though as well and report back.

It's either that or look at sourcing a T5 box. I drove a friends with the T5 and it's sooooo much nicer ! Will just have to get used to it i think. It's going to be a drastic change from the Mx5 that's for sure !

When you say pulling the lever through syrup. the lt77 is quite stiff and heavy in the gear change. Its just the way it is.

If it is going into all the gears smoothly its probably fine.

If 1st and reverse are mixing into one there is adjustment that can be made on top of the box to stop you going all the way across to reverse when selecting first. There are some large springs on top of the box which can be adjusted.

You will have to take the centre console out and inspection hatch out to get to it. If you do some searching on lt77 box there are numerous threads on this and i think with pictures on the fix. At least its not a box out job.
