....and not use it?

So i managed to get to and from Silverstone fine on both friday and saturday using the new bypass, was very impressed/surprised after the horror stories of previous years.

But wait, what happens Sunday...they send only press/officials/park&ride buses down the bypass, everyone else has to drive through silverstone village - cue a 1hr traffic jam whilst 4 lanes of the bypass is totally clear - can anyone else work this one out because i'm struggling.

And then they wonder why the residents of silverstone get very annoyed and why king bernie wants to move somewhere else....

Apart from that a very good weekend.

Couldn't agree more - the road system, or rather, the mis-use of the roads was appalling. I arrived early, and left late, but still had to queue in traffic on tiny roads whilst looking down on a pristine and empty dual carriageway. I expect Brunstrom will be put in charge of declaring the success of the plan.

Anyone ever had to queue like that for a Disney park? No, thought not... The circuit needs proper access roads, with just the minority traffic (media/VIPs etc) being routed through the villages. All the normal punters should be whisked along dedicated roads. Won't happen, and the British GP will leave Silverstone.

Better write to the Chief Constable of Nothants then...after all the fuss about the bypass this is totally ridiculous.

Well, you would'nt want Bernie to get caught in the traffic with the hoi poloi like you lot, would you???

That does sound very strange indeed, although I normally go the back roads through by Stowe school

That's why Mr Big said there were no traffic problems then!

I think the problem is that they try to get all traffic heading from the M1 in the car parks on one side of the circuit and all those from the M40 the other. The muppet who designed the new carriageway and the owners of the circuit didn't think to put slip roads for both sides of the circuit hence the ludicrous situation we find ourselves in, which drives me mad as well.

Then on the way out they stick temporary traffic lights on the Towcester roundabout on the A43 which cause more problems than they solve.

And why do they try and route M1 traffic going south onto the A5 down a country lane when the A43 is a dual carriageway which joins directly with the M1.

Its better than it use to be, but some of the decisions and routing are just plain dumb.

You've answered your own question.

It is the world's press that report just how wonderfully easy it is to get in and out of the place, not the great unwashed!!!

I went on Friday and coming down the A43 from the M40, we were directed by big signs down the A422 through Dadford village. Tuning into Radio Silverstone they were saying that the A43 was clear and not to go through Dadford!

Someone should sort out the idiot who organised the signposting!

You may not have, but these two ponces did. I saw their 'cavalcade' whoosing along the empty dual-carriageway beneath us, as i was sitting in the car, queuing on the bridge above to drive into a 4x4 course, sorry i meant parking field.

JUst as we neared the split for media etc and the public it looked like one person was trying to wave the traffic down the media route...of course we went the other way and came to an abrupt halt.
Some 20 cars joined on behind then the rest went down the dual carriageway......
We crawled up the side road and got to the bridge crossover mannned by a clueless dimwit.
All he had to do was to remove 3 cones lets us cross the bridge and we could have rejoined the A43...nope not in his instructions.
When we got to the turnoff...of course 2 lanes into 1 is bound to cause congestion....asked to get down to the South carpark...no probs let us through the cones and we parked 5 minutes later across the road from Club grandstand.
Apparently there was a crash on the dadford road which included BAR mechanics which jammed that road.
Geeting out was no probs...just headed to Dadford and then around south Milton Keynes.
So the question is why close the A43 to make it one way to use 4 lanes when they get people off it at the first opportunity....dipsticks.
And another thing....
when you get your tickets with the car park voucher why dont they say the nearest carpark is....abc and the best way to get there is.......
I am afraid I have to agree with Bernie on this....stilll a shambles

I quite literally bumped into this lot in the paddock about 3/4 hour before the race start - was busy celeb watching the other way to turn round to see full blown green hatted general 2 yards ahead of me... Hmmm

Was a top day (many thanks Toyota - and Mike Gascoigne should run the show, there'd be far less B/S then) - fantastic to see Jonnie Herbet manhandle the D-Type around the circuit, simply class.
