How much do you pay for servicing on your car?

I've only been driving for 3 years and in the past I've had any work on my cars done by family friends at mate's rates, so I'm not really sure what reasonable service costs are!

Just got a 2003 Leon Cupra R and the 'specialist' garage wants £170 for a 100k service which is classed an an 'intermediate' service with air filter and brake inspection.

I've repeatedly heard good things about this place and the thought of getting it done 'properly' as I've only just got the car feels reassuring. I don't want to be throwing money away though!

So how much do you guys expect to pay for servicing these days?

I hate these 'major' or 'intemidiate' services..

I follow my own service plan...

Mine gets oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, pollen filter and an all round checks every year.

Every 3 years they get plugs, coolant, brake fluid.

My Saab (or anything i have turbocharged) gets 6 month oil changes.

Other consumables (brakes etc) when needed.

Always use genuine parts, for a normal yearly they comes to around £50 inc oil. Then an hour to fit them all at local garage while i wait. £45inc.

So about £100 and I know it's done right.

Edit to add... I don't have new cars under warranty so no service schedule to follow.

I do the 4500mile services my self, its just engine oil, filter and ayc fluid (decent automatic trans fluid), sometimes spark plugs and clean the air filter. Total cost is around £50.

The bigger service I usually get done by a specialist for about £300 and the big cambelt service is about £500 (48k miles or 60months).

Something around £150 for a "routine" service is reasonable IMO provided that they ACTUALLY change oil, filter, air filter, possibly cabin filter, and plugs if required. They're charging £50 at least for the stamp in the book, but hey ho.

Why not call a TVR garage and ask them how much for a service........ Then you'll be happy with your quote....

Around £30-£50 if DIY'd or £300-£400 at a Jag Specialist.

Most years it's £60 parts for oil and filters, with my own labour. Pads are about every two years and if I've had the car three I'll think about other items.

On a C or E-Class my local Merc main dealer charges £220 for a minor service (oil change), £440 for a major (oil change & more thorough inspection). Everything else like coolant change, brake fluid change, autobox oil change, brake pads etc is chargeable as an extra.

i just paid 120 quid for mot and minor service at halfords autocentre ( basically a fkin oil change and check over) but needed a stamp on the book as it hadnt been stamped in years, this has basically pissed me off owning a more modern car

im considering going back to older cars where i dont think a stamped history matters anymore, and just doing it all myself like i used to do, so much cheaper

Service costs for my E46 M3 cab

Insp 2 at main bmw dealer was £1086

Oil service at bmw independent was £130

Insp 1 at bmw independent was £465

About 12k miles between services.

Nothing, as I told VW I wouldn't buy without the service plan included! And before that, £150 for TLC on the MINI.

So I'm not used to actually handing over *any* money when taking cars for a service, one of my mates had a bill for £360 for a service on his Clio 197 recently which I thought was verging on extortion!

Same here. Although the 330d needs 7.5L of oil so it's going to be more like £60

I paid ~£200 for a service on my CLS from a very reputable specialist I take my cars to, that was, oil & filter, air filter, fuel filter & pollen filter all using genuine MB parts

£60 from a mate but at a vw specialist in swansea. thats genuine parts and oil,

just had a 100k service and cambelt change for £260 which isnt too bad
