EvenIng all.
Glad to report I am finally back in Wedgedom! It's been a while since we sold our Black 390SE to a fella in Australia.. (are you there and hows it doing, pm me) I've seen a few different TIVS, S's and Chims etc but my heart lies with the good old wedge.
I am now the proud owner of a cooper green 400SE.

Question to those in central Scotland.

I need someone close to Edinburgh to tune the car as it has a miss when cold, but strangely drives fine once on the move. It's actually only an issue when you start from cold but seems to run fine when warmed and on the move.
Also, I need a new hood and the targa recovered.

I've contacted a bloke called Mr Ramsey in Loanhead and Mr Kelly in Edinburgh. Anyone used them and what was the job like and costs involved ?

Si

Si, you said car runs fine when warmed up then when slowing down and turning corners it then has a slight misfire as if one of the leads moved, clean and check coil push all leads firm, dizzy cap do same clean and check leads going into it, just in case one of the new leads hasnt be pushed all the way, plugs are new, hot wire system, it's got to be something silly.
Hope you find the niggle.

I know it's not a V8 but the same principles apply - I had an intermittent misfire on the Jeep which I couldn't find the cause of for months, it gradually got worse though and eventually was there 90% of the time.

Turned out to be an ignition lead to No 6 plug had corroded at one end, and eventually the spring clip fell to bits, it must have been getting slightly worse and worse over time. So yes, check all your plug leads (and the king lead).

I've got a few electrical bits n bobs on order. Fingers crossed this should clear the issue..

I will say this though. I called a TIV specialist today who said if its not electrical then it WILL be the cam. !
It's a hard as nails Wedge, not a Chim. Talk about scare mongering...

Will give an update in the coming days.

Update on the hood

Well i visited a local trimmer who asked me to bring in the car. Did that. He looked and during our conversation he asked if id had prices from anyone else, I mentioned a well known Tiv trimmer, the gent became a little unhelpful and said, well I can't do it and I'll be double what they will charge and oh, I can't do your car until Autumn. Strange character.

So looks like I now have a long drive ahead of me... Not that I don't want the TVR lads to do my hood, it's I would rather stay local because of work commitments. Blackpool here I come, once I've sorted out my misfire.

Talking of misfire, I've got a load of new parts to fit..... Fingers and Legs crossed.

Does anyone think changing the wee box of tricks attached to the distributor should be changed as part of my renewing of the ignition system.

Are you taking about the ignition amp o the side of the dizy...
Little black slim box heald on with 2 screws...?
If you have a miss fire i would change this out first, it may just clear the prob.
Is your a 2 pin or 3 pin type not that matters.
Just remember to use some thermal compound on the back to help with the heat build up, use computer stuff
I can post a used one onto you to try, i know it works ok.

Ok. Found a couple of places who will supply hoods for the wedge. This company state 1980/1988.

http://www.mazdahoodshop.co.uk/TVR.html
I've got a 1991. Are the wedge hoods all the same ?

Also, you seen the price. Quite cheap comparing to some of the quotes I've been getting locally!!!, cheapest in this neck of the woods is £760-ish supplied and fitted.

I seem to remember speaking to these people last year as regards to a new hood and targa top and they said that the price was for a hood and window only..No targa recovering..Im sure they said they have also never done a wedge...I did find a really good re-trimmers called gemini seat covers in the south east but he declined doing the roof as he has never done one either and did not want to waste my money..However the carpet and dash recovering they do is superb!!...Im hopefully booking it in sometime this year..Personally by what ive been told is if they have never done one before dont give them yours to practice on..It will leak and look total ste..Ziga
