i know the engine has had cams in the past as they snapped could this be a shim? any ideas

Sure is i fitted one to the diff when it was out and trying to find a gear box one as well and sump plug too while they are all out.had one on my last car....this must have done some damage on its way downspongy said:

From my limited engine knowledge, by the time that's in the sump, any damage it could have done would have already happened on its way from the bucket to the sump? Been told the filters on the pick-up in the sump would stop anything of a material size like that from getting back into circulation. My engine will be coming out soon (now its getting warmer!) for a rebuild at APM, one reason being that 2 shims had shattered to pax bank, with some pieces not found, but if they had managed to get into the valve or valve stem/spring area I'd certainly have known about it!had one on my last car....this must have done some damage on its way downAlso been advised against magnetic sleeves on the filter or the sump as it will collect the bits for sure, but then possibly release a "clump" all at the same time if the magnetism is interrupted at all or the clump becomes too big and is overcome by flow pressure.
