Any recommendations to insure a GT3 through ? Liverpool & Victoria who the RS is insured through at present will not insure a GT3 but will quite happily insure a GT2. Doesn't make sense to me that they will insure a modified lhd with similar power/weight as the GT3 but not a GT3.

Rumour has it that two weeks before I insured my turbo with them, a customer insured a brand new GT3 and took it on a trackday (with insurance) before it was even run in and and wrote it off. Hence their about turn in not insuring my turbo for trackdays/Nurburgring. Clearly the instructions took a while to filter down from the underwriting department to the people giving out quotes on the telephones.

Tried Elephant for a laugh and got a quote of £948 which surprised me. The rs was with Aon last year but at renewal this year premium was almost doubled and wanted a tracker device fitted but might try them again as the GT3 has tracker fitted. Waiting for someone to call me back who seems to be recommended on the GT3 forum on the Porsche club website. Don't understand L&V unless they've had a pretty poor claims history with GT3's.

Lowest quote I could get for my 993RS LHD was Direct Line!

Took out a policy with Bickley at £1,170. Not the cheapest but worth it for the trackday cover where the premium is £105 per event and excess up to £3,000. Picking the car up tomorrow.

Was the policy with NU or RSA? I tried Chris at Bickley insurance but it was coming out well over that for my GT3. Cheapest so far is Admiral/Elephant at less than £1,000 - obviously no track cover. I am really struggling to get any decent quotes with trackday cover.

Think it's with Norwich Union. What sort of figures were you given, do you have max ncb, I'm also in my late 30's which helps as well.

Bickley insurance quoted £1800 ish via NU and performance marques via RSA (PCGB only) was £1436. I am late 30's, full NCB, no claims/convictions (although that changed of yesterday!). Maybe I will give him another call.

I've been using Nowell & Richards (specialise in porsche insurance) as brokers for years now, they are very good.
Give them a call on - 01785 255514
They match any quote (well so far for me!)

Please let me know how you go with these.

So? Did you get the new GT3 Jim?

Interested to hear what you think.

I drove one a few months ago so have a reasonable idea.

Picked it up yesterday and drove it about 100 miles, mainly motorway. Strangely underwhelmed with it at present totally, totally, different from the rs. They started it up in the showroom and the noise was less than impressive, if they'd done that with my rs there would have been people diving undertheir desks. Very, very easy to drive and extremely quick. Don't like the speedo etc, what's with the 25mph increments, too fussy. Still I'm sure I'll be more and more impressed with it overtime. It looks lovely from the outside but from the drivers position I really miss seeing the lovely rounded shape of the 993 in the side mirrors.

Remember that the GT3 Register in PCGB publicised a small spate of GT3 thefts last year This will cause a sizeable dent in the risk ratio for such a niche and relatively rare car

All insurance companies share a database for claims and thefts and this may well have triggered the warning bells at L&V and pushed it over their level to accept the risk.

Murray, where did you find insurance in the end?
