How many of us/you actually own and drive our ideal cars? Ideal doesn't have to be a McLaren F1, just something that you actually really want to own, as a type/class of vehicle as well as the actual model?

Money is evidently the most overriding stumbling block for most, but with such a huge array of awesome cars available for almost any budget, is there any real reason not to be driving an ideal car of sorts?

Pretty much, yes. However much money I had, I think I'd still have my car in my garage and probably still use it as my main commuter vehicle.

Of course if money was no object, I'd own other cars as well, though.

I do, but I still want something else... Anyway, 340bhp, ludicrously fast, does track days ok, carries my twin girls, can accommodate a roof box... sorted...

I did but my ideal car criteria have changed with fatherhood.

Edit: Actually, thinking about it a bit more, it's not my criteria that have changed, just the frequency of opportunity to use the car. Must use it more this year!

I would have to say yes. Lotus Superseven twincam; wanted one since I was a young lad and had my one for over 20 years now. Almost all of the other cars in my current stable could go if they had to or something new was coming along, but not the 7.

(Not sure whether this really fits with 'ideal' however.)

Yeah I do. I am a habitual car buyer (well at least annual) as I get bored of cars, doesn't matter how good they are.
I had one of the best E39 M5s around, and only managed 18 months after getting bored and a little bit irritated with lack of grip in the wet.
Now I have a fettled B6 S4, and in terms of grip, handling, power (endless pull from the V8), sounds awesome (Milltek),a nice place to be with lots of toys, and it looks nice but understated I think I have found my perfect car. If I won the lottery I would be tempted by a GTR, but I couldn't get all my kids in the back which I can in the S4.
I can't think of many cars costing up to ten times as much that deliver everything my S4 does.

This may sound like a daft question, but doesn't an RS4 do everything an S4 does and more besides?

Fair point, but, not massively quicker in reality, not sure if they are true 5 seater, not as understated (and the thieves choice ATM), and fuel consumption is worse.

I do, but that doesn't mean I don't browse the classifieds daily looking for the replacement.

Close to, yes. Engine note is the biggest let-down, but other than that it's ideal.

I do know that there is nothing I would buy to replace it.

All my cars are absolutely ideal... but given any opportunity I would upgrade them for better/newer versions.

Interceptor - would not sell nor change, can't get any better!
Jag XJ8, would quite happily swap for a newer XJR
Fiesta Diesel - ideal for my communte - gets 60mpg, but given more funds I'd have a nice Merc, or use the Jag tongue out

But I would always add more classics to the garage.

Well my ideal car would be an XKSS, but with a carbon fibre body and a fully comp spec Xk unit up front.

So doesnt exist then smile

Yes...

I love tinkering and my Defender wont go unless I tinker smile

I love V8 and RWD and comfort as well, so the Celsior provides that

I have no interest in anything newer
