What Discounts used?
Discussion
There will be about £4k between the trade price & the sticker price, but that isn't the end of the story. If it is a Jag approved used, that car has to be sold with 12 months tax, fully pdi'd, serviced & with 12 months warranty (£1000), so really not much once the dealer adds his margin & VAT. If you want a cheaper car, find a private ad one or if it is a beaut, pay the extra for the dealer sourced car.
For a used one, not much discount will be available.
Unless of course its going over-age (interest bearing) and they want to get shot of it. However thats usually the worse cars on the lot with the wrong colour combo and scuffed up alloys, not the nice ones that you want to buy.
If you get a fair price for your part ex and a grand off it, you'll be lucky

I can't comment on XKR's but was looking at XJ's before XMAS. I saw a thread on depreciation where someone mentioned their 11 Reg XJ Portfolio had received an offer of £37K in PX against a new Discovery. At the time equivalent cars were in dealerships at around £10k more. I managed to speak to two other people with a similar story, so pretty sure that wasn't a one off. Obviously every car is different, but every dealer will tell you every car on their lot owes them 99% of asking price. Good luck.

What is not mentioned is what other stock the dealer had at the time. He may well have not wanted the PX so offered a low price to avoid having 3 cars the same (or similar).KevinA3DSG32 said:

The owner stated the dealership told him that they had tried extensively to get offers on the car, but they could not even get a bid (it was not a hideous combo before you ask). In light of that this was the best they could offer themselves. Ultimately they lost a sale (decided against changing at that level of depreciation), so I would assume they did put some effort into getting offers on the PX car. Moreover, as I said previously I was given a couple of other examples which were inline with this.Of course given that model is relatively new, many used examples appear to be Jaguar UK cars. I don't know what they came in at. I also don't know how applicable this is to other models. But I took the view XJ's which came in from private owners may have more margin then the £1-2K dealers suggest.

All I can say if it's Stratstone is ZILCH not a penny off, no extra's thrown in except the salesmans arrogant behaviour...
I got the same response from my local Stratstone, "we make sure we are the cheapest advertised, we don't offer discounts". Based on that I didn't bother calling anymore Stratstone dealers, until I received a call back from them. I explained others were prepared to negotiate on asking, but given their position I was therefore not bothering calling them. The response was "oh ignore that, obviously we will negotiate, will you allow us an opportunity to find you a car" :/
On the other hand if I was after a RR Evoque I doubt I would have got that call back. In fact even the most pro-active dealer, let alone Stratstone would be unlikely to entertain much dithering on one of those. You just need to gauge where the balance of power lies and tailor your approach appropriately. Obviously easier said then done.

They were not willing to budge on a car I liked with them - the usual "it's the cheapest one in the country blah blah" and clearly it wasn't as there were others available in the network. They then tried to flog me their own warranty rather than the Jaguar warranty by saying their was Abraxas or something was more advanced - yeh right! More like they were getting more commission. The salesman told me they had a sweepstake going at work as to when the car would sell and he estimated by 6pm tonight LOL total cowboy nonsense! When I said I wasn't interested and left my offer on the table the arrogant salesman called me the next day to say "we have priced the car incorrectly...It should be £1150 more than advertised so if you buy at the asking price you are getting an absolute bargain mate" I firmly declined and passed on my apologies for him loosing the sweepstake

Two days later (6 days after my offer) he calls me again and said the price has now been increased by £1150 I happened to be on a computer so checked and it was still the same price and told him that and he said "it will be updated in the next hour"..
He then said "it seems an XKR is out of your reach sir how about we find you a XK instead?"
That took the cake and I actually told him where to go and never heard from him again - I do wish he reads this and realises I did buy an XKR

I've never experienced anything like this before they really are so so wierd!

Glad you got your car none the less.

Shame you weren't a Jaguar mystery shopper, that would have been an interesting result....!
Its funny how so many people come away with a similar experience from certain groups. Shame is that they seem to dominate sales. But I am sure Jag are aware of it.
Good news, there are still some independents out there, but clearly they do not offer the wide stock.
I worry that if Jaguar are to grow in the ways hoped, I feel that they really need to shake up the dealership network. IMHO I am not sure that the current one is up to it.
I would have also thought more JLR dealers would make good sense given the growing shared parts bins.
In terms of dicounts, it really is a buyers market, there are lots of XK's out there. Just look at the Jag approved used site to compare prices. Turn the tables on the sales person, be prepared not to buy if you dont get what you want. Make an offer and wait for them to respond.
