Here's our Boxer/Staffy cross, Teddy or Teds for short.

Now, whenever you come in the door, or go to stroke him, he'll bound up to you, tail wagging, as you would expect. Then, as soon as you go to stroke him, he'll leg it off and look frantically for the nearest toy/bone/blanket. He'll pick it up and bring it over to you, and then allow you to give him a good fuss. It's as if to say, "Look! Look what I've got! Isn't it exciting!"

It's lovely, idiosyncratic behaviour - I just wondered if any of the doggy psychologists on here knew what was going on between his silly furry ears. Is this a Staffy thing, a terrier thing, or just a general dog thing? Is he conveying pride, or is it a bit like a comfort thing?

It's a lesson he's learned.

Bring something and I get praised.

Labs in the house when I was growing up couldn't be without a "present" when welcoming anyone coming home. smile

My Ridgeback does very similar ,

Its a lets play type greeting plus he knows he gets attention when he brings something to show off so just fairly normal behaviour
