Okay - before you start, I didn't put the pimp wheels on myself, but they do fill the arches nicely wink

I recently bought the car and have been very happy with it, but the ride is obviously suffering at the hands of the thin rubber - especially on the quality of roads out this way.

What would the masses recommend as a good replacement tyre dimension to get a little more accomodating ride, but without losing the nice road manners / handling? (and where to get them?)

I guess the other alternative is to ride these tyres out (virtually new atm) and replace with smaller rims and a higher tyre height when they're worn.

Thanks in advance.

When I purchased my Turbo it had 20" wheels with 35 Ratio tyres fitted.
Like you I found the ride harsh in anything other than "comfort" setting.

Decided to run the tyres out and replaced the whole lot with 18" wheels with 255/55 Tyres. (wheels courtesy of ebay)

I find that I need to be travelling at simply insane speeds to notice much difference in handling.
What I do notice is better ride comfort, less road noise, and lower costs. (tyres seem to last circa 14,000 miles)

Thanks Rob,

14,000 miles!!! I could have a bit of a wait until I change them then...

As you say, I had thought to sit and wait until the tyres are at least half worn, then buy a set of smaller alloys off ebay or wherever, with a usable set of tyres and replace the smaller tyres as necessary.

First day of ownership I managed to ding one of the wheels trying to get into a multi storey car park rage

I've got 20" wheels on mine and certainly wouldn't want to go any bigger.

I'm tempted to do what robrobc has done and move down to 18".

The rears were virtually brand new when I bought the car and the fronts were not far behind. I was taking it very carefully to start with, I think that 14,000 was a good effort, having now got used to the car I would be delighted to get 10,000 out of this set, but don't tell SWMBO as I have been a trifle economical on that frontbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

I am running on 18" Bridgestone Turanza tyres and find them more than acceptable. Open to suggestions from other posters as always.

I have a cayenne turbo S with 20" wheels, with air suspension the rides great. I also have a BMW x5 and these nothing to compare the two. The x5 doesn't even come close to the ride quality of the Porsche on air!

They're a really nice wheel actually, and quite easy to clean (other than the fact they are soooooooo big that you have to clean the whole inside of the wheel too as its all visible) wink

I love the look of the car, that V8 rumble is just addictive too, but it feels like a sports car, harder even than my 3.2 911 wobble (which when the road conditions / kerbs / speed bumps etc etc etc are so awful here, just detracts slightly from the driving pleasure).

Next up is sorting the aluminium door strips - which for some reason all seem to have suffered with small bits of corrosion (this was consistent across all the Cayennes of this age I saw!!!?)

Im reluctant to pay the couple of hundred quid for a new set from Porsche if its going to happen again, and Im surprised that alluminium would do this anyway!

I had wondered about the worth of contacting Porsche direct and asking whether they felt this was acceptable on such a high value motor... Maybe thats expecting too much?

Shows what a big car the cayenne is when 22" wheels don't, IMO look too big.

18's would look tiny!

Indeed.

Theres plenty of space in those wheel arches for yet more alloy wink

Ive fired off an enquiry to Porsche regarding the alluminium bits... Just out of interest really to see what they say about a 'substandard' part on one of their cars ears
