Headlamp dip beam not working
Discussion
Nearside dipped beam not working, search facility is down, so sorry as I'm sure this is a well documented issue. Car is a '98 Chim, splitter across the nose and I'm pretty sure my arms won't be long enough to reach to wherever the bulbs are. There's a circular cover about five inches in diameter inside each wheel arch, which appear to be held in place by a pop rivet top and bottom and bonded also. I'd heard something about wing nuts but I don't have any.
Is this a case of drill out the pop rivets remove the bonded cover replace bulb(s) then re-bond and pop rivet? Any piccies of whats behind the covers would be much appreciated. As would anyone with three foot long articulated arms who has some time on their hands...
Cheers,
Chili

Jack car up & remove wheel. Don't forget axle stand or lay wheel under car in case jack gives way. Remove the self tappers holdong the circular cover in wheelarch. Might need to drill these out if too manky. Cover should have some mastic holding it on, prise off. Look inside hole & there is access to the bulb. I replaced the self tappers with slotted screws which are easier to remove next time
Hi there,
Just changed my lights, in the front wing you will see the round plate held in place with either rivets or just screws.
Remove this cover and you are at the back of light unit, and very easy to clip out the bulb.
Its easier if you take your wheel off but you can do it by just turning your steering wheel to give you room.
Hope this helps
Paul

Hi Paul thanks for your reply. I did the deed yesterday afternoon (just in time to visit my mother who's in hospital). Only problems were the two self tappers wouldn't accept the screwdriver so had to drill them out, then bJust changed my lights, in the front wing you will see the round plate held in place with either rivets or just screws.
