A mate swears he has just seen one, with a "GTO" numberplate parked on a street in Manchester. I can't believe it for a second as the only place these ever get parked is at concours events or race paddocks where there is good security. He also said it had a few 'race number/stickers' on it.

Does anyone know of this car, which I assume is a replica?

Nick Masons carries the reg number '250 GTO' so might he have seen Nicks car? It is used regularly so it might be his.

Dont know what reg number Chris Evans' car carries these days.

no it apparently had 'gto' but the other number wasn't 250 or anything particularly memorable.

I'm pretty sure that most of Chris Evans' cars have 'ENZ' registrations.

Don't think he does.....I remember reading an interview where he regretted that when he could afford one he didn't buy one and now they're too expensive even for him!

£15mil ? It's only a Series II ! Whatever that means!

Still good for him. Great to see someone enjoying themselves.

The series 2 had a more streamlined bodyshell for the 1964 season. They don't have the outstanding beauty of the 1962 - 1963 cars but it's all relative of course.

Now in Gingernut's case I believe his car was originally a series 1 car that was rebodied for the 1964 season in the later style. It may be in the report above but I can't be ar$ed to read it. That leaves him in a bit of a quandry: keep it "as is", or get it rebodied back to classic 1962/3 style. I assume that the old bodyshell has been scrapped though, so he could only have a replica fitted. Consequently he will probably keep it in the 1964 style.

Edit: the UK has always had more than its fair share of 250 GTOs. I think they made 39, of which 36 were 3 litres and 3 were 4 litres. Off the top of my head I can think of "250 GTO" (Mason), "6 GTO", "330 GTO" (4 litre), "63 GTO" (Piper/Bamford), "EUP977B" (Sears), "TCH100", "TCH101" (both TC Harrison brothers), "APB1" (also Bamford '64).
